The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs won two more 6AAAAA region matches last week to run their region record to 3-0 in region play.
The Chiefs started their week at Conway last Tuesday and handed the Lady Tigers a second 2-0 score and the Chiefs second region win. The Chiefs’ Robyn Walsh scored a goal in each half to give the Chiefs their season sweep over Conway. Raphaella Nunes had an assist in the match and Clara Cloninger had three saves in goal.
The Chiefs were back at The Hank last Wednesday to take on West Brunswick in a non-region match. Macy Lockard had a first half goal for the Chiefs. West Brunswick tied the match with a second half goal. Since it was a non-region match the final score was 1-1.
Last Friday night the Lady Chiefs entertained the Socastee Lady Braves. The Braves scored early in the match for a 1-0 lead. Macy Lockard tied it with a goal and then assisted on a second goal by Raphaella Nunes. Lockard added another goal late in the first half with an assist by Valentina Ruotolo and a 3-1 Chiefs lead.
The Chiefs controlled the match in the second half. Chloe Schmidt and Lockard scored goals and the Chiefs kept the pressure on throughout the half, playing much of the half in the Socastee end of the field and scoring one of the goals on a free kick that sailed just over the Socastee keeper’s head.
Chiefs coach Kelsey Winkler was happy with the 5-1 win but felt the team had a slow start in the first half. “It was a very slow start. We had a good half-time talk. We keyed in on some points that we really needed to fix for the second half. They did everything we talked about. They took control of the game. They didn’t just react. They started working together as a team, really communicating and having fun. That’s why we got the win tonight,” Winkler said.
The Chiefs have two away games this week, March 24th at Carolina Forest and March 27th at St. James, both region matches.
