Soccer summer camp got underway Tuesday with 100 kids

By John Smithson Kids from ages five to twelve filed in to the NMB Middle School soccer field Tuesday morning for a chance to better their skills during the three day event. The summer camp was sponsored jointly by the city of North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department and North Myrtle Beach High School. The high school’s girls varsity soccer coach Kelsey Winkler stated that the camp was being held from 9 am to twelve noon Tuesday through Thursday, with 100 boys and girls between the ages of five and twelve registered. Miss NMB chosen in top five

By Lexie Jordan Saturday, June 24 at 8 p.m. was the day of the Miss South Carolina Beauty Pageant and consisted of several South Carolina locals including one of our own, Brooke Vu. Brooke has been competing in the Miss America Competitions since 2012 and continues to do so. She has been an advocate for women in education and frequently holds fundraisers to earn money for women’s scholarships.  Brook competed in the 2023 Miss South Carolina Pageant this year and was named fourth runner up. Army Corps of Engineers visit city hall

      The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Charleston District and city leaders met last week at city hall to discuss upcoming beach renourishment. Mayor Marilyn Hatley, Councilman Hank Thomas and City Manager Mike Mahaney met with Lt. Col. Robert Nahabedian, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Lt. Col. Andrew Johannes, Commander of the Charleston District. Lt. Col. Robert Nahabedian will become Commander of the Charleston District in July 2023. If you went to your mailbox to find it empty on Monday, June 19, it is because there is a new paid federal holiday added to the calendar in June 2022. Government offices and banks were closed to take a paid federal holiday that was recently recognized by the Biden Administration to raise awareness of an important historical moment in United States history of ending slavery. North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club raises Elder Abuse Awareness and raises funds for Project Lifesaver

Thursday, June 15th was World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The North Myrtle Beach Woman’s club petitioned the city to sign a proclamation setting this day aside to bring awareness to the community about our most vulnerable citizens, our elderly. Chief of Police Dana Crowell attended the event and read the proclamation. City Council Meeting June 19th, 2023

City council members in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina held their bimonthly city hall meeting on June 19th, 2023. The meeting for the fiscal year 2024 discussed several new topics. The budget for the new year was $174 million. North Myrtle Beach Councilman Fred Conye says the city has done an “Excellent job” not raising taxes while still providing for its residents. Rescue Squad Puts Proceeds Toward Equipment and Gear

     The North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad located at 1002 6th Ave S, North Myrtle Beach is one of the earliest rescue squads in the state, according to its history page. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, meaning services are provided to the public for free. NMB Women’s Club event raises $85,000

April was a big month for the GFWC North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club. It hosted its annual “Purses with Purpose Charity Event” at the Marina Inn Grande Dunes. This annual “Girls Night Out for Charity” raises money to give to local charities in the community and that they did this year. A total of 340 ladies and a few brave men were in attendance for the fun-filled evening, which included a delicious buffet dinner and decadent desserts.
