Lady Chiefs finish third at Island Invitational meet

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs track and field team finished third at the Island Invitational track meet last Saturday. The Chiefs were third out of fourteen girls team competing in the meet and were led by Fenna Hollo, who was named the Runner of the Meet for her performance. Hollo won first place in both the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run, crossing the finish line at least 15 seconds ahead of the second-place runner in both races. Her accomplishments anchored a third-place finish for the Lady Chiefs in the final team standings. The …

Girls lacrosse 1-1 in region play

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs lacrosse team won two of three games last week while splitting region games with Carolina Forest and Myrtle Beach. The Chiefs opened their week last Monday at Carolina Forest and lost 18-8. The Chiefs continued to make progress against the established teams they play as they build their program under coach Danielle Lowrimore. Five different players scored in the game. NMB varsity sports results are given

Boys and girls soccer — Since the season opened with the Nash Tournament the boys varsity soccer team has won five matches. Their most recent win was a 5-0 shutout of Conway on Wednesday, March 11. The girls team is 3-3 so far this spring. The Lady Chiefs won their last match 2-0 over Conway. Bridget Mount scored the first goal for the Chiefs and Raphaella Nunes scored the second goal. Hall is garden club speaker

The Loris Garden Club met on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 4 p.m. on Walnut Street at the Mishoe Stoudenmire Building in Loris. President Gloria Kinney welcomed the group and recited the invocation. The club’s meeting venue was decorated with whimsical and adorable St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun figurines, a tree festooned with shamrocks and included delicious refreshments; all of which were provided by hostesses Wanda Cox, Barbara Enzor and Gloria Kinney. Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority flushed lines recently

By Kaye Collins Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority (GSWSA) began flushing the waterlines in Little River, Conway, Loris, Aynor, Gallivants Ferry, Green Sea and communities west of the Waccamaw River. There may be a noticeable change with the smell of chlorine. GSWSA began flushing the waterlines at the beginning of March 2026 opening the fire hydrants to let the water flow to remove any sediment which may result in temporary water discoloration or sediment in your water. Local leaders move to name future I-73 after President

By Ruben Lowman The long-debated I-73 project, a multi-billion dollar infrastructure plan designed to link the North Carolina border to the Grand Strand, may soon have an official name. On Thursday, March 5, the South Carolina House of Representatives officially passed a resolution to name the yet-to-be-built stretch of road the President Donald J. Trump Highway. The resolution, known as House Bill 4982, cleared the House floor with a 76-28 roll call vote. Drive ‘hands-free’ or be fined

By Ruben Lowman South Carolina’s six-month grace period for the Hands-Free and Distracted Driving Act officially ended at the beginning of this month. Drivers in Horry County and all across the Palmetto State are now subject to active enforcement and financial penalties rather than the warning citations that have been issued since the law was first enacted in September 2025. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety confirmed that first-time offenders will receive a $100 fine. Those caught a second time or more face a $200 fine and will have two points added to their driver’s license. These penalties apply …
