The Loris Chamber of Commerce held the 8th Annual Talent Show at the Loris High School auditorium on Saturday, Feb.1, at 3 p.m. Miss Loris Bog-Off Festival Queen Logan Knutson and Miss Loris Bog-Off Festival Teen Kaitlyn Courtney were the emcees for the day.  Knutson and Courtney presented the 37 performances of dance, solo dance and singing.  Miss Loris Bog-Off, Carroll Young, was selling tickets for the 50/50 give-away.  With a new administration and new mayor and two crucial resignations within the last year the City of Loris is making changes for the better. On Monday, Feb. 3, Keith Massey was at his post ready for training and working with Jenna Winborne to become more familiar with the job. Keith Massey has accepted the position of Clerk of Court for the Municipal Court in Loris.  He has 13 years of experience in law enforcement and has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business Administration from Columbia College and has an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. …

Loris City Hall has announced the six member Grievance Committee to include Tonsheka Wilson, Esau Johnson, James Bellamy, Ken Grate, Rick Green and Gwendolyn Gerald. Council approved the committee members at the Tuesday, Jan. 14, city council meeting. The committee consists of a combination of employees of the city and citizens in Loris who have been appointed by the city administrator to volunteer their time to be a part of the committee. A farewell luncheon was prepared for Kenya Wright’s last day at city hall. Coworkers spent their lunchtime sharing fun memories spent working together as a team. Wright tendered her resignation effective Friday, Jan. 17. The Loris City council unanimously approved the purchase of a new accounting software that will give the city utilization of one software to entire accounting information. Dennis Drozdak, interim city administrator, addressed council to promote the purchase of the software totaling $103,775.20 stating that the software was needed “yesterday”. The software is being provided by Edmunds Gov Tech. The software will be efficient and more user friendly within the departments to better track the expenditures in each department; Drozdak will be able to compile the data entered into one software to provide the city council with more accurate financial reports. …

The Horry County Solid Waste Authority recently recognized Little River area resident Anthony Rosaves as the “Caught Green Handed” recipient for the month of December. “The ‘Caught Green Handed’ recognition is presented monthly to a Horry County resident caught in the act of recycling” stated Esther Murphy, Director of Recycling and Corporate Affairs for the Solid Waste Authority. “It’s the Solid Waste Authority’s way of recognizing and thanking citizens who have made the effort to recycle. Peggy Merck and Christine Kleczkowski gathered some of the door prizes donated for the annual Mega Card Party/Luncheon at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. “We have packages for wine lovers, beach lovers, cooks, golfers and just about every category of interest,” Merck, chair of the event, says. Kenya Wright tendered her resignation with the city of Loris on Monday, Jan. 6. She will leave her position with the city to explore other options. Wright has been employed by the city almost seven years. She will close the door to this chapter in her life on Friday, Jan. 17.
