James Edison “Ed” Wooten, 61, of Loris passed away on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at McLeod Seacoast in Little River following an illness. Mr. Wooten was born on Feb. 19, 1957, in Loris to the late Bill Giles Wooten Sr. and the late Mary Faith Douglass Wooten. Mr. Wooten worked as a truck driver for most of his life, most recently with Powell’s Tire & Axle. He was a member of the Loris First Presbyterian Church. Grace Letha Gipe Elson, 95, widow of William Owens Elson, died on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at her home. Born on Nov. 25, 1923, in Fort Collins, Col., she was a daughter of the late Guilford Gipe and the late Dopha Alzada Hamill Gipe. She graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School and a secretarial college in Sacramento, Calif., and went on to work as a secretary at Mather Field for the Army Air Corps during World War II. North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs and Chiefs had a tough night of rivalry basketball last Friday at the NMB gym. The girls lost a heartbreaker 36-35, while the Chiefs were outscored 69-37. The North Myrtle Beach High School Chiefs wrestling team ended their regular season last Wednesday with a 67-6 victory over Myrtle Beach at the Chiefs gym. It was senior night as senior players and their families were honored before the match. When things got going, the Chiefs showed why they are region champions by winning all but one individual pairing.
