The Loris Chamber of Commerce held their quarterly meeting on Tuesday, June 18, from Noon to 1 p.m. at the McLeod Loris Health and Fitness Center. Noted conservationist and Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris is challenging families everywhere to put down their digital devices and head outside to discover the joys of fishing this summer. Morris, Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s are donating more than 55,000 rods and reels to not-for-profit partners that help kids from all backgrounds connect to the great outdoors to kick off Gone Fishing. William Odell Scales, 74, of North Myrtle Beach died on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in North Myrtle Beach. Born on Sept. 12, 1944, in Greensboro, N.C., he was the son of the late Robert H. and Dorothy T. Moore Scales. Robert “Bob” Norman Stapleton, 79, of Loris passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019, at Embrace Hospice in Myrtle Beach. He was born on Oct. 23, 1939, in Rutland, Vermont, a son of the late Marshall Claire Stapleton and the late Helena Catherine Filipetti Brinker. Mr. Stapleton served his country with courage and honor as a Green Beret in the United States Army. After the military he worked with the New York State Police as a senior investigator until his retirement. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his companion, Gail T.
