The City of North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department is proud to celebrate the 26th anniversary of Jazzercise in North Myrtle Beach. The very first class was held on December 3, 1999, after owner and instructor Debbie Transou brought the program to the area to fill the void she felt after moving away from her previous Jazzercise community. More than two decades later, the program continues to thrive, energize, and inspire participants across the city.
What began as one woman’s desire to reconnect with a beloved workout program has evolved into a vibrant, long-standing community tradition. Jazzercise North Myrtle Beach has welcomed countless residents and helped shape an active, supportive environment rooted in wellness and friendship.
“We’re thrilled to have hosted Jazzercise for 26 years,” said Matt Gibbons, director of the North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation. “Debbie and the Jazzercise community contribute so much more than fitness—they bring positivity, energy and service to our city.”
Throughout its history, the Jazzercise group has remained committed to giving back. Their community service efforts include raising funds for the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society, participating in the Adopt-A-Beach Access program, and—most recently—collecting supplies for Backpack for Buddies, supporting children in need.
Jazzercise is a one-hour dance fitness program that blends high-energy cardio dance moves with strength training for a full-body workout. Designed to make exercise fun and accessible—especially for women—Jazzercise has been evolving for more than 50 years and remains one of the most enduring fitness programs in the world.
