The North Myrtle Beach boys and girls basketball teams had winning starts to their schedules as they began their 2025-26 seasons.
The girls had that big win over West Brunswick to kick off their season, then closed out their November play at home with a 50-28 victory over the Laney High School Lady Buccaneers. That win was punctuated by their second strong defensive game as they shut down Laney for most of the second half for a 2-0 record before the Thanksgiving holiday break.
The Lady Chiefs begin in December with two games this week, a Tuesday game at West Florence and a Friday home matchup with the Loris Lady Lions.
The Chiefs boys team battled back in their first game of the season for a 53-46 overtime win over West Brunswick on November 21. The next night the Chiefs began their participation in the Green Sea Floyds Thanksgiving Tournament with a 63-32 win over the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders.
The Chiefs had a big second quarter, scoring 22 points and leading 33-20 at halftime. They continued their offensive barrage with 30 points in the second half for a 63-32 victory. Mason Walker led the Chiefs in scoring with 25 points, making 7 of 9 three-point shots and 9 of 12 from the foul line. That win put the Chiefs in the tournament championship game against the host team Green Sea Floyds last Tuesday night. The Chiefs led 23-10 after the first quarter and 35-24 at halftime. The Chiefs maintained a 49-37 lead after three quarters. The Trojans rallied with a 24-point fourth quarter to edge the Chiefs 61-59.
