By Meg Williams: A long time resident of North Myrtle Beach, Amanda Todd is very familiar with yelling “Go Chiefs.” Mrs. Todd is in her ninth year of teaching and currentky teaches first grade at Waterway Elementary. Amanda earned her bachelors degree in Early Education and her masters in Education in Literacy at Coastal Carolina University. Amanda was first inspired to teach by a former North Myrtle Beach school teacher, Vicki Lewis. November is recognized as Diabetes Awareness Month. Lions International members have as a primary mission the eradication of preventable blindness. Diabetes retinopathy is the leading cause of vision loss in adults aged 20-74 years and has been ranked as the fifth most prevalent cause of preventable blindness and severe vision loss. In response to this serious disease the North Myrtle Beach Lions conducted an educational outreach program at Boulineau’s on Friday, Nov. 15, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Lions distributed helpful information including a pamphlet , “It’s Not Too Late To Prevent Diabetes.” According to North Myrtle Beach Lions …

The Horry County School Board has filled the vacant District One seat. The seat has been filled by W. Russell Freeman, the senior pastor at Little River United Methodist Church on Highway 17 in Little River. Russell Freeman is a graduate of both Wofford College and Emory University and has served churches around the state of South Carolina including those in Loris and Little River. Angela Gause Brown is a native of Horry County and resides in Little River. She is a 1992 graduate of North Myrtle Beach High School. Angela continued her education at Charleston Southern University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. Green Sea Floyds Trojans play-off conference game for the third round match-up against C.E. Murray High School War Eagles is Friday, Nov. 22, with a kick-off time of 7:30 p.m. at GSF Luther Enzor Field. Last week the GSF Trojans hosted St. John’s Islanders of Charleston on Friday, Nov. 15, with a winning score of 65-0 knocking the Islanders out of the play off games. Daisy Elementary School held their Run for Fun annual Turkey Trot on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Loris Nature Park. Teachers, staff members and parent volunteers were present to help encourage the students and to hand out feathers for each lap they completed. Last year the run was held inside the school due to inclement weather, however, this year the weather cooperated and the students were transported by bus to the park. The Loris Historical Society has been working hard renovating The State Theatre located at 4149 Main St. You may have heard some hammering or dust flying the last few months. It is coming along but help is definitely needed. They have kicked off the first fundraiser and they hope you will be a part of it. They are selling bricks for the foyer of the museum. Aaron, age nine, was instrumental in preventing a full house fire when he smelled smoke. He said that he thought he smelled something burning and saw the smoke coming from behind the dryer. He alerted his family and instructed them to crawl on the floor to avoid getting the smoke into their lungs. After calling 911, the family was safely outside of the home awaiting the fire department to come help save their home. The Loris Volunteer Fire Department and Horry County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the home. Upon arrival they proceeded inside the home to investigate the …
