Amanda “Diddle” Waynette Fowler Tyler, 37, of Loris passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born on Sept. 2, 1981, she was the daughter of Wayne Fowler and Sylvia Ann Cox Fowler. Mrs. Tyler was a loving homemaker, worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Gangi for many years and was a member of Pleasant Meadow Baptist Church. The Little River Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center will celebrate their moving to 440 Hwy. 90 E., Suite 1, in Little River with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Wednesday, June 19  from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the new chamber office. Previously, we posted that the city would construct temporary handicap ramps at the 8th Avenue North and 12th Avenue North street ends to replace the permanent structures removed to allow for expanded parking. There is a change of plans regarding construction of a temporary handicap ramp at the 8th Avenue North beach access. The city developed a variety of designs and, unfortunately, they resulted in less than two feet of clearance from the top of the dune to the bottom of the structure. Installation of payment kiosks, signage and more has begun in public parking lots on either side of Ocean Boulevard in North Myrtle Beach. The paid parking season this year runs from June 15 through October. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The parking fee is $2 per hour.  On June 6, Mayor Marilyn Hatley issued a proclamation recognizing Leonard A. Gardner as a patriot, further proclaiming that it is an honor to have him as a citizen of North Myrtle Beach. On June 6, 1944 (D-Day), America was engaged in a world war against countries who sought to force their beliefs on the free democracies of the world. On that same day, Leonard Gardner, U.S. Army, shipped out to England and joined the 90th Division, then fought his way through Valognes and Montebourg to cut off the Nazis fleeing Cherbourg. The residents in the city of Loris visited the polls to cast their votes for the run-off election for mayor.  On Tuesday, June 11, the East and West Precincts were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Election Commission met at the Public Safety Building at 7 p.m. awaiting the delivery of the ballots. The West Precinct was delayed stating they were having technical difficulties.  At 7:50 p.m. the delivery of all the ballots was in and Venson Powers and Melzetta Gore read the votes at 7:50 p.m. with Kenya Wright tallying the votes.
