Mark W. Dickson, 47, of Little River passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Roper Hospice Cottage in Mt. Pleasant. Mark was born on November 8, 1971, and was the son of Dave and the late Judy Dickson. Mark leaves behind his father, Dave Dickson of Little River; his brother, Michael Dickson (Carman) of Charleston; his brother, Rhett Dickson of Little River; nephews Dillon, Robert and Parks; nieces Haley (Jessey) and Bridget; and great-niece Saylor. A special election to select a successor to the late Mayor Henry L. Nichols will be held on Tuesday, May 28, to fill the term of mayor until December 31, 2019. Four residents have filed with the city to be placed on the ballot for the May special election. They are: Joan Gause, council member; Todd Harrelson, council member and mayor pro tem; Michael E. A town hall style meeting was hosted by the Loris Chamber of Commerce, Jack Murphy, the Loris Recreation Center and a city official to discuss with business owners and the public the future for Loris. Speakers were Samantha Norris of the chamber, Jack Murphy of WSLC Tiger Radio, recreation director Tom Cocke and Brandon Harrelson, city code enforcement director. Twenty-two students at Loris Middle School participated in the school’s Technology Fair held on Thursday, March 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The students select a category they want to create from a list provided by Amber LaSalle, the school’s media specialist. The projects at the fair included robotics, digital photography, animation, mobile app creation and video editing. They began working on their presentation beginning in November 2018 with the deadline of March 15, 2019. The Zoning Commission Committee met on Monday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the Loris Chamber of Commerce conference room. Present at the meeting were committee members Linda Morrison, Ruth Ann Jones and Tommy Brogdon, the city code enforcement director Brandon Harrelson, city attorney Kenneth Moss and resident Wendy Barusch. Poseidon, a six-month old English Bulldog with a fun and spunky personality, was the winner of the Best Irish Dressed Dog contest last Saturday at the North Myrtle Beach Times office.
