By Kaye Collins Poppie’s Downtown Sweet Bar, Apparel and More celebrated National Ice Cream Month on Thursday, July 24. Children who were dressed in a costume received a free scoop of ice cream of their choice. They served 119 scoops of ice cream with Barbie, Belle, Bluey, Cat-boy, Tinkerbell and more. Beginning at 5 p.m. the doors swung open with all forms of characters entering to get ice cream and play games. Bryan Floyd Community Center on Possum Trot Road on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. The event was free and open to the public, offering residents a chance to meet and greet with North Myrtle Beach police officers and firefighters. This week they finish their annual band camp after two weeks of hot and humid weather, playing and marching through whatever elements mother nature sent their way. The band started early every day but still didn’t push it. They took breaks, worked under any shade they could find and took the usual preliminary steps necessary to get ready for a full year of music and competition. By James Pease II On Thursday, July 31, Bully’s Pub and Grill in Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach held “Raise Your Cups For The Pups” to help raise money for Kind Keeper Animal Rescue. The fundraiser was held from 12 noon until 3 p.m. and was sponsored by the Pepsi Company. Free zero sugar Pepsi was given out to guests who attended the meet up. The high school was a very busy place as the dance camp participants practiced in several different locations as they learned steps and turns they would use in the last day of their four-day camp. By John Smithson The NMB Parks and Recreation 12U all-star team won the Diamond Youth Baseball State Championship with an undefeated run through all their opposition. Last Thursday the team gathered at the high school parking lot and got a few encouraging words from members of the varsity Chiefs baseball team before traveling to Lexington, SC for the DYB World Series. The Chiefs traveled to Lexington as South Carolina’s representative in the O Zone District 1 playoff and the chance to become World Series Champion.
