Rededication ceremony held for memory garden

On November 20, 2025, the North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club held a rededication ceremony for the memory garden at North Myrtle Beach High School.

The memory garden was started in the early 2000s by Lynn Myrick. Since his passing, the garden has been neglected, at least until now. Thanks to the help of North Myrtle Beach High School students in the Interact Club and Engineering students, the memory garden has been brought back to its former glory.

The ceremony began with North Myrtle Beach High School student Sadie Averitt giving a prayer.

Melissa Wober, president of the North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club, gave the dedication speech. “Students in the Interact Club, this is their project. They have planned this and are going to maintain this for many, many years to come.”

Fourteen students were dedicated, with new students to be added soon.

The project was made possible through grants totaling just under $4,000 from multiple organizations including Destination North Myrtle Beach Chamber Foundation, Elliott Beach Rentals, and North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club.

Whole Foods Market also provided a grant to create raised edible gardens around the perimeter that the NMBHS culinary students will use to enhance their skills.

North Myrtle Beach Rotarian George Gay provided hand built benches for students to sit at and do school work by the memory garden.

The memory garden is located behind the school.
