By John Smithson The NMB High School’s boys volleyball team ran their season record to 9-9 after last week’s region play and a full day of matches at the Volley Brawl at the Beach Tournament last Saturday at Myrtle Beach High School. The Chiefs region schedule last week included two of the better teams in the 6AAAAA region. The Chiefs began the week at Carolina Forest last Tuesday, losing 0-3 to Carolina Forest (13-25, 9-25, 11-25). The Panthers were15-3-1 entering this week’s play. By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School cross country varsity and JV teams got some valuable experience as they traveled to Florence, S.C., last Saturday for the Pee Dee Classic cross country races with over 20 teams competing. The Lady Chiefs did not have their usual team competing since two of their starting five were attending a swim meet. Fenna Hollo won the girls varsity 5000 meter race with a time of 19:15.14, 34 seconds better than second place finisher Layla Holladay from Socastee High School. By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School swim teams continued their successful year in the pool as the boys team won first place and the girls team took second place in last weekend’s Socastee Invitational swim meet held at Coastal Carolina. Thirteen teams competed in the meet, with 205 swimmers in the water for a variety of competitions. The Lady Chiefs were second out of 11 teams. By John Smithson The NMB High School Lady Chiefs continued their winning ways last week as they beat Conway and Socastee in region play before dispatching three teams last Saturday in a three-team bout for an 11-0 record so far this season. The Chiefs began their successful week with a home win last Tuesday against Conway. The Chiefs won that one 3-0, (25-12, 25-14, 25-16). The Lions had won 39 of those previous matchups, and the last three between the teams. The AAA Lions came into the game as the #4 team in the state. The boys team finished eighth in their race. St. James was first, Myrtle Beach second and Carolina Forest third. Fenna Hollo led the Lady Chiefs to victory as she took first place in the 5K race. By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs football team celebrated an early-season senior night in only their second home game of the season with a 24-12 victory over the visiting West Brunswick Trojans last Friday night at The Hank. The Chiefs 20 senior players and members of the Band of Chiefs and cheer team were all recognized and honored by the school and family members in the traditional senior night festivities before the game. The Lady Chiefs won on the strength of four Chiefs finishing in four of the top five positions as they crossed the finish line in the 5K race.
