The Loris Garden Club met on Wednesday, February 4, at 4 p.m. at A.J.’s on Walnut, the Mishoe Stoudenmire Building in Loris. President Gloria Kinney welcomed club members and gave the invocation.

The meeting began with a reception to celebrate Dorothy Richardson’s 50 years of membership in the Loris Garden Club. Mrs. Richardson has been an active member of the club since January 1976. During this time, she has served as president of the Loris Garden Club for nine two year terms, Coastal District Co-Director from 2001-2003  and Coastal District Director from 2003–2005. Most recently for 2023-2025, Mrs. Richardson has served as the historian of the Garden Club of South Carolina.

Mrs. Richardson’s service on the Garden Club of S.C. Board for over 25 years has earned  her the honor of being in the elite “Golden Circle” of the  Garden Club of S.C. Ms. Richardson continues to serve as the GCSC Life Membership Chair for the South Atlantic Region and the National Garden Club.

Delicious refreshments prepared by the club in the  theme of “An Olde Fashioned Tea” were served to members and guests. Following the reception, guest speakers Glen and Gail Hendry, from Aiken S.C., members of the S.C. Bluebird Society, gave a fascinating presentation on the care of bluebirds, their houses and environments in our gardens, which included a display of a unique “predator proof” bluebird house.

President Gloria Kinney thanked the club’s speakers and all who contributed to the preparation of the reception honoring Dorothy Richardson. After leading the group in reciting the club benediction, the meeting was adjourned.
