Senior Night honors the June 2020 graduates

The Loris Lions hosted the Aynor Blue Jackets who are second in the state on Friday, Oct. 25.  The Blue Jackets came out to win swarming the Lions as they tried to take the ball to the end zone. In the first quarter the Blue Jackets scored with an 8-0 lead on the Lions.  In the second quarter the Blue Jackets scored again with a 16-0 lead.  During the third quarter both teams played hot-potato with the ball, with four fumbles with turn-overs in four plays.  Loris took the ball for a touchdown and two-point conversion with the score 16-8. …

Voters to use new paper voting ballots

Every vote counts and it is every citizen’s right to vote in any election.  On Tuesday, Nov. 5, is the General Election for mayor and three seats on city council and the special election for the unexpired seat that has two candidates vying for the spot.  Voters will visit their assigned precinct in Loris to find the new ballot system.  The easy to use touch screen voting along with a secure paper record is for a secure verification of votes cast.  There are four steps. With the mayoral General Election coming up next Tuesday, Nov. 5, the two candidates, Mike Suggs and Todd Harrelson, were introduced in a forum hosted by the League of Women’s Voters and the Women’s Coalition. LHS Marching Band hosts 30th Annual Band Competition at Heniford Field this Saturday

The Loris High School Marching Band will host the 30th band competition beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Heniford Field. All bands will be judged on dress, move and music.  The first high school marching bands in Class A to take the field to compete are Green Sea-Floyds, South Columbus and Myrtle Beach.  Each band will play a 10 minute musical selection with the drum majors leading the band on field and presenting the bands to the visitors and judges. Girls volleyball team finishes region play as 10-0 champions

The North Myrtle Beach High School girls varsity volleyball team had another successful week, beating Wilson and Darlington to finish the 6AAAA region with a 10-0 record and an overall record of 29-10. The Lady Chiefs beat the Wilson Tigers on Tuesday 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-9) at North Myrtle Beach in their final regular season home match. Last Thursday the Chiefs finished up the regular season by travelling to Darlington and again won by a 3-0 score (25-8, 25-8, 25-11). NMB girls golf team wins region 6AAAA championship

The North Myrtle Beach High School girls golf team won the 6AAAA region golf championship last week with a one stroke victory over Myrtle Beach. The Chiefs scored 388 to nudge out Myrtle Beach with a 389. Hartsville was third with 429 and Darlington took fourth with 495. The Lady Chiefs were led by sophomore Cara Hilburn with a round of 82. Seventh grade sister Sydney Hilburn shot a 99, junior Savannah Jordan shot 100 and Kalynn Basehoar had a 107. Chiefs fall to the winless Falcons

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs varsity football team fell on the road this past Friday night at region foe Darlington 10-9, losing their second straight game. The No. 7 ranked Chiefs (5-2, 0-2) went into the contest heavily favored over the Falcons (1-7, 1-1), who hadn’t won a game in over 700 days, two seasons. Playing in front of a large homecoming crowd at Darlington, the Falcons fan base came out for fun and fellowship, until their team had a chance to win, and for those who stuck around, it became a night they’ll never forget. Alvah ‘Al’ Dalton Fuqua Jr.

Alvah “Al” Dalton Fuqua Jr., 79, of Sunset Beach, N.C., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center. Born on May 4, 1940 in Raleigh, N.C., he was the son of the late Alvah Dalton Fuqua Sr. and Novvie Smith Fuqua. Mr. Fuqua is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Dianne Lambert Fuqua; two sons, Dean and Scott Fuqua; daughter, Catherine Fuqua; and three grandchildren, Julia, Carolina and Miguel. Jane L. Foy, 92, of North Myrtle Beach, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 at Grand Strand Rehab & Nursing Center. Born on April 9, 1927, in Apollo, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles K. and Elsie B. Orr Grimm. Mrs. Foy is survived by her children, William B. “Billy” Foy and Patricia A.
