Church donates land to the city

The Loris First Presbyterian Church donated a plot of land to the city of Loris.  The property across from Forest Drive and Milligan Street is overgrown with foliage and trees and has a culvert along side of the property.  The spokesperson for the church stated that they had approached the city to purchase the property when David Stoudemire was mayor, however at the time the city was not interested in purchasing the land.  The land was donated to the church by an individual and they had no purpose for the property and felt the best solution is to donate the …

Ceremony marks start of program

Last week, lots of parents and grandparents, hundreds of fall youth sports participants ages 7 to 17 and their coaches, the Mayor and City Council, the North Myrtle Beach Recreation Commission and others gathered at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex to mark the start of the 2019 fall youth sports program, which includes 27 teams with 560 people. Fall sports include tackle football, flag football, lacrosse, volleyball and soccer. Lyon appointed to Tree City Board

Jeanette Lyon was appointed by City Council to serve a four-year term on the North Myrtle Beach Tree City Board. The Tree City Board meets quarterly, although special meetings may also be held. The Tree City Board advises the city in all tree-related matters; serves as a source of information about proper tree maintenance techniques and community tree management policies; makes recommendations for public tree establishment, maintenance, protection and removal; provides input to the public grounds superintendent for the development of an annual work plan and long-range planning; reviews the city’s tree ordinance, tree planting master plan and recommends changes …

New Sign being installed

A 12-foot by 16-foot LED Screen is being installed at the southwestern corner of Highway 17 and Robert Edge Parkway The SCDOT-approved sign will have a brick base and landscaping. Constructed to withstand winds of up to 140 mph, the sign will help promote city festivals, concerts, sports tourism and other events and will share city information during hurricanes and other incidents.

Senator Hembree selected for national leadership program Senator Greg Hembree of Little River has been selected to participate in the 2019 Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills (CALS) in Little Rock, Arkansas, from Oct. 5-9. The Little Lions take on Aynor Blue Jackets

The Loris Recreation football season began on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10:15 a.m. with the Little Lions roaring onto the field to take on the Aynor Blue Jackets.  The Little Lions cheerleaders are on the sidelines with pom poms in hand, sporting their uniforms and cheering for the team as the crowd gathered to watch the game. Panthers defeat Lions

The Loris Varsity Football welcomed the Carolina Forest Panthers to Loris this past Friday night. The 10th ranked Panthers were more than the Lions could handle. New queens will represent city at 2020 events

The Loris Chamber of Commerce presented the Miss Loris Bog-Off Festival Pageant on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Loris High School auditorium beginning at 1 p.m. The emcees for the pageant were Greg and Morina Martin.  Greg welcomed everyone to the pageant then turned the program over to Morina.  She introduced the judges giving a brief history of each one.  Greg introduced each contestant, and Morina presented the question to the future queens.
