Group participates in prayer walk

On the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 28, a large group of steadfast prayer warriors gathered once again to pray over all students and staff members of various schools in North Myrtle Beach and the surrounding areas. The annual gathering began several years ago by Pastor Jon Feld of a powerhouse church. As the procession of vehicles met at Riverside Elementary School the prayers began with raising their hands and 60 plus voices praising our Lord for the protection of all students. Coffee with Friends will host author at library

Friends of the North Myrtle Beach Library will host author and columnist Celia Rivenbark at 10 a.m. on Oct. 3. The Coffee With Friends will be held at the meeting room in the library and is open to the public. Rivenbark will speak about her newest book, Rude Bitches Make Me Tired.  Her first job after college was writing for the Wallace Enterprise, but she moved on to the Wilmington Morning Sun and a humor column for the Sun News.  Several of her books have been nominated for the James Thurber Prize for humor.  One book spent time on the …

Green Sea Floyds Trojans and the Loris Lions faceoff

The Green Sea Floyds Trojans and the Loris Lions faced off on Friday, Sept. 13, at the first Loris Bog-Off Bowl.  It was a tight game with a final score of 28-27 with GSF winning the Bog-Off Bowl trophy. Each team member received a T-shirt from the Loris Chamber of Commerce. Cheer Leading Camp

A cheer camp was held on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Loris High School gymnasium to learn cheering techniques with the Loris High School cheer squad. They showed standing on two other cheerleaders with a spotter behind, how to kick when ending a cheer and much more.  Paiton Todd, coach, made arrangements with LHS for the camp. Recreation committee looks to future about revenue

The Loris Recreation Center Committee met on Monday, Sept. 16, at the Loris Chamber of Commerce conference room.  Present at the meeting were recreation director Tom Cocke, Jan Vescovi, Terrence Hardee and Todd Harrelson. Hardee provided the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance.  The meeting began with updates on the baseball and softball fields, uniforms, field conditions, All Stars and reports on the recreation website (www.Loris.Rec.com).  New uniforms are provided to the cheering squads this year.  The uniforms consist of a top and skorts which are similar to what the Loris High School cheering squads wear.  This is exciting …

City hopes to expand Christmas decorations to bring in crowds

Christmas is just around the corner and thoughts of sugar plums are dancing in the heads of Brandon Harrelson and Tom Cocke.  Both are excited to present council with the possibilities of more twinkling lights and decorations to bring in visitors to Loris with hopes that visitors will come to see, eat and shop locally. Their proposal to council was to utilize the hospitality funds in the amount of $72,000 to upgrade, purchase new decorations, strands of lights and to have a visual of an animated Santa and sleigh. Varsity volleyball returns to net with two wins

The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity volleyball team returned to action last week after Hurricane Dorian visited the area. The Lady Chiefs began the week with a win over Carolina Forest at their home gym.  North Myrtle Beach won 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-21). Coach Alex Sing was glad to get the win. “Carolina Forest is young, but they have some talented kids. We were glad to get the win at their place,” Sing said.
