Violet Rollings Boyd, age 76, of Loris passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at her home in Little River. Theodore “Ted” Van Weeren, 72, of Longs died on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at McLeod Seacoast Medical Center in Little River. Born on Sept. 10, 1947, in Holland, he was the son of the late Jacobus and Johanna Van Weeren.  Ted was an accountant and attorney.  He was the recipient of two Emmy Awards for his work at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988. Mercurio, beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 25, 2019, at the age of 83.  Joseph is survived by his four children, Karin, Kenneth, Patti-Jo and Peggi, and his four grandchildren, Cameron, Carson, Mary and Hannah. The North Myrtle Beach High School boys and girls swim teams joined five other teams competing last Friday at the NMB Aquatic and Fitness Center. The Chiefs squads joined teams from Carolina Forest, St. James, Socastee, Waccamaw and Conway in many individual and relay events. The NMB girls finished second and the boys hung on to finish in third place. The Lady Chiefs volleyball team continued their winning ways in 6AAAA conference play with a 3-0 win over Darlington last Thursday at the Chiefs gym. The Chiefs continued their excellent play last Saturday with a second place finish in the Wildcat Invitational Tournament in Lexington. The Lady Chiefs win over Darlington was highlighted by, as coach Alex Sing put it, “a combination of great serving and near flawless attacking” as they overwhelmed the visiting team. The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs varsity tennis team returned home and won a 4-3 match against visiting Darlington. The Chiefs won three singles matches and split two doubles matches for the win.
