Chiefs open football season with win over powerhouse Tigers The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity football team opened the 2019 regular season in spectacular fashion last Friday night, defeating the Conway Tigers for the second year in a row. Entering the game with a No. 6 state ranking in 4A, the Chiefs put up 24 points to the 5A Tigers’ 7 points. The heavily attended game at the Hank Hester Sports Complex, on the campus of North Myrtle Beach High School, opened scoring near the end of the first quarter with a 69 yard touchdown pass for the Tigers. …

NMB Volleyball, other fall sports teams getting underway at school The North Myrtle Beach girl’s volleyball team finished second in last weekend’s preseason tournament at North Myrtle Beach, before this week’s opener. The Lady Chiefs won three of five matches in the tournament. They won over Marvin Ridge 2-1 (19-25, 25-23, 15- 13), lost to Porter Gaud 1-2 (25-18,16-25, 11-15), won 2-0 over Hoggard (25-23, 25-13), won over West Henderson 2-0 (25-21, 25-22) and lost to Wando 0-2 (15-25, 15-25). Trojans win by 51-9 score

The Green Sea Floyds High School varsity football team traveled to West Columbus High School in Cerro Gordo, N.C., to take on the Vikings this past Friday night. The Green Sea Floyd’s Trojans dominated in the away non-conference game in both offense and defense and won by a final score of 51-9. The Trojans will be back home next Friday night to take on the Hannah-Pamplico High School Raiders in a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m. Green Sea Floyd’s junior running back Jaquan Dixon (#9) can be seen running around the left side of the line for a large gain …

Virginia Lee Harlan Myers of Loris passed away on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at the age of 74. “Jenny” was born on March 25, 1945, in Clifton City, Mo., to Ollie L. Harlan and Mable Mae Todd Harlan. She grew up in Clifton City and graduated from Otterville High School. She was married to Thomas H. Myers on March 23, 1964. Jenny was well loved and respected in Sedalia and Boonville, Mo., where she lived and worked before retiring to South Carolina. Sheri Jane Rabon, 50, of Loris passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at her home. Ms. Rabon was born on Dec. 20, 1968, in Loris to Larry Carl Rabon and Shirley Jane Johnson Rabon. She worked compassionately as a home health aide and was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church. Paul M. Prince, 77, of Loris passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, at his home following an illness. He was born on Sept. 30, 1941, in Loris, to the late Rufus Prince and the late Lula Gracie Wade Prince. Mr. Prince served his country with courage and honor in the United States Navy and was a Master Mason and forty-seven year member of Loris Lodge #205 AFM.
