City announces Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities

SCDOT releases new dates for SC 31 public meetings

The S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) released the new dates for two public meetings for the proposed Carolina Bays Parkway (SC 31) Extension project. The meetings were postponed earlier this month due to the potential for tropical weather. October Tree of Month chosen

By Gianna Forbis The North Myrtle Beach Tree Board has designated a Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Cinerea) as the October Tree of the Month. This evergreen, native to Australia, can be found on 14th Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach. Eucalyptus will grow in coastal South Carolina but needs to be protected during prolonged freezing temperatures. The aromatic leaves are a silvery-green, but the bark and leaves can be toxic to people and animals.

Homecoming spoiled by loss to Conway

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs Homecoming week ended on a sour note late Friday evening as the Conway Tigers used a second half rally to beat the Chiefs 35-28 in the first 6-5A region game of the season. The Chiefs and Tigers traded possessions early in the first quarter before the Chiefs began a touchdown drive from their 40-yard line. City holds 21st Annual Irish Italian Festival

By John Smithson The City of North Myrtle Beach hosted the 21st Irish Italian International Festival last Saturday on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. Despite a forecast of rain, the threat of a tropical storm and declarations of state of emergency by area municipalities, people still turned out to enjoy some green beer, eat and enjoy music from two separate stages set up on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. CenterWell had a grand opening for a new location at Surfwood Shopping Center in North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday, September 30. CenterWell is a primary care provider focused on seniors, who are 65 years and older and on Medicare. By Jill Roman The Driftwood Garden Club has had a busy September. Members Babs Johnston, Trudy Sobolka and Linda Sweatt participated in the Plant Swap “Bring a Plant, Take a Plant“ event at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center Outdoor Courtyard. They shared plants and gardening tips with other local garden clubs and attendees at the event.
