Boys volleyball team record is 9-9 after tournament

By John Smithson The NMB High School’s boys volleyball team ran their season record to 9-9 after last week’s region play and a full day of matches at the Volley Brawl at the Beach Tournament last Saturday at Myrtle Beach High School. The Chiefs region schedule last week included two of the better teams in the 6AAAAA region. The Chiefs began the week  at Carolina Forest last Tuesday, losing 0-3 to Carolina Forest (13-25, 9-25, 11-25). The Panthers were15-3-1 entering this week’s play. Chiefs XC competed at Pee Dee Classic

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School cross country varsity and JV teams got some valuable experience as they traveled to Florence, S.C., last Saturday for the Pee Dee Classic cross country races with over 20 teams competing. The Lady Chiefs did not have their usual team competing since two of their starting five were attending a swim meet. Fenna Hollo won the girls varsity 5000 meter race with a time of 19:15.14, 34 seconds better than second place finisher Layla Holladay from Socastee High School. Swim teams go 1-2 at Socastee meet

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School swim teams continued their successful year in the pool as the boys team won first place and the girls team took second place in last weekend’s Socastee Invitational swim meet held at Coastal Carolina. Thirteen teams competed in the meet, with 205 swimmers in the water for a variety of competitions. The Lady Chiefs were second out of 11 teams. Lions sweep Braves off the field

By Kaye Collins The Loris Lions welcomed the Socastee Braves on Friday, September 19, with the game starting at 7:30 p.m. The stands were packed with family, friends, school staff, and Lions supporters. Members of the Blue Pride made their way to the bleachers or stood at the gate to catch the game. The Loris Marching Pride Band played their ditties and the cheerleaders shouted cheers to keep the crowd energized and to motivate the players as they advanced the ball up and down the field. Gunfight near Longs Sunday night leaves no injuries

By Kaye Collins Horry County Police responded to reports of gunfire on the evening of Sunday, September 21, in the Longs area. Four vehicles sustained damage from bullets during what appeared to be a gunfight. Officers arrived at the intersection of Bombing Range Road and Dewitt Road around 9:30 p.m. after receiving calls about shots being fired. A witness reported hearing over 27 shots fired. Officers discovered approximately 25 shell casings, which included 40 caliber, 7.62 caliber and 45 caliber rounds, scattered along a half-mile stretch of the road, as stated in the report. South Carolina launches operation to target distracted driving

By Kaye Collins South Carolina Law Enforcement is responding swiftly after a series of recent events in which state troopers were hit by vehicles while performing their duties on the roadside. During a press conference on Monday, state and local officials revealed a significant enforcement initiative regarding the state’s Move Over Law, as well as a wider effort to combat distracted driving, which includes the recently enacted Hands Over Law.
