Charles Edward James, 82, of Loris passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at McLeod Loris Hospital. He was born on Feb. 9, 1938, in Loris to the late Leamon Dewey James Sr. and the late Ina Meice Harris James. Mr. James  worked as a farmer and in construction  until his retirement. He was a longtime member of  the Blue Pride, an avid Loris Lions fan and was a life long member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Tidelands Health issues an urgent appeal for volunteer community sewing help

As part of its ongoing response to the COVID-19 coronavirus threat, Tidelands Health is issuing an urgent appeal to community residents who can sew. The health system has several thousand new, never-used N95 respirators in its warehouse. The respirators were acquired during a previous public health emergency but never used. While the N95 respirators themselves are in new condition, the elastic straps have become brittle over time. Before the respirators can be made available to clinical staff, the straps need to be replaced. “We are reaching out to our community and asking for your help,” said Pam Maxwell, the health …

City buildings closed to public, services continue

By Pat Dowling On Monday, March 23, all City of North Myrtle Beach buildings closed to entry by the public until further notice. However, all city employees report to work as usual and all city services continue according to their regular schedules. Police, Fire/Rescue, Sanitation, Water and Sewer and all other city services are provided as usual, the only difference being that all city buildings are closed to entry by the public. South Carolina schools closed until further notice

Loris Elementary School posted the information on the sign in front of the school to let everyone know that all South Carolina schools are closed until further notice. On Tuesday South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and Superintendant of Education Molly Spearman announced that the closure of all South Carolina schools will be extended until at least April 30.

Restaurants are heeding to the governor’s mandate

By Annie Rigby The executive order to close schools has disrupted the baseball, softball, tennis, soccer and track practices and games for Loris High School. The Loris Recreation Sports Complex is also following the order; they have postponed practice for softball and baseball.
