City Council approves Declaration of a State of Emergency

Loris Sports Complex Softball Tournament

The grand opening for Loris Sports Complex Softball tournament was held on Saturday, March 14. Sports suspended in Loris

Governor Henry McMaster announced the executive order to close schools across the state. Horry County Schools closed due to the coronavirus. Teachers and staff reported to work on Tuesday, March 17, to plan the assignments for the students to continue their studies. Updated stop lights installed

This past week a member of the South Carolina Highway Patrol directed traffic at the intersection of Main Street and Broad Street in Loris while the traffic lights were being changed out. Employees of ALS of North Carolina, Inc. based out of Fayetteville was subcontracted by the South Carolina Department of Transportation to change out the old stop lights and install new modern stop lights that improve the safety of the turn lanes and to help traffic move through the intersection more efficiently.

Jimmy Otto Day, 68, of Longs passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020. Mr. Day was born in Loris, a son of the late Otto and Minnie Suggs Day. He was a member of Camp Swamp United Methodist Church and was a member of the Tuesday Morning Bible study group in Loris. Mr. Day was the owner and operator of Day’s Fireplaces and had previously been employed by Ocean Drive Gas and Appliance Company in North Myrtle Beach for over 30 years. Mary Elizabeth Flanagan  Galligan, 74, of Little River  and formerly of Lisbon Falls, Maine, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday 2020, March 10, with her loving husband by her side. Mary was born on Feb. 5, 1946, in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of the late Joseph and Marguerite (McHale) Flanagan. Ruth G. Hudson, 77, of Myrtle Beach passed peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Portside Grande Dunes surrounded by her loving family. Born on Oct. 19, 1942, in Salina, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Evelyn Kline Greene. Ruth attended a one-room grade school in Mentor, Kan., and high school in Salina. Franklin K. Gardner of Columbia and Longs passed into eternal rest and peace on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020, after a long illness.
