Loris Lions are preparing for the fall sports

Loris High School Football Head Coach Jamie Snyder along with the other coaches, Brandon Day, Lang Kenlaw, Josh Stevenson, Andre White, Julius Graham, Casey Davis, Michael Buffkin and A. Grady, have worked throughout the summer with the Loris High School varsity and junior varsity teams to prepare for the fall football season.  In preparing for the season the South Carolina National Guard visited to work out with the team.  This year’s quarterbacks for the Loris Lions are Gage Conner and Joseph Flesch, both are seniors this year; Conner is the lead quarterback for the varsity team this year.  Connor said,”This …

Salvation Army donates school supplies

Salvation Army Captain Carl Melton and Jerry Williams, director of community relations, brought three pallets of school supplies to city hall on Monday, July 29, at 2 p.m. The ladies who created and promoted this program, Amanda Hawley-Causey, Deborah Cannon, Jenna Winborne and Tonsheka Wilson, are overjoyed with the donations they have received during the three week campaign to collect school supplies for needy children in the area.  When the Salvation Army arrived with three pallets of school supplies, they were overwhelmed with emotion at the amount of items donated. City mourns loss of a hard worker

Loris mourns the loss of a city worker.  Anthony “Rabbit” Melvin, who worked as a water crew leader, died in a motorcycle accident on Sunday, July 28, at approximately 9:30 p.m. Melvin was traveling south on Highway 701 when he attempted to pass a vehicle that resulted in a head-on collision with a truck. The Loris Fire Department volunteers were the first to arrive on the scene. As they assessed the accident they realized that was a fatality, but not just a fatality in itself, but realizing who the individual was made it more difficult for the LFD volunteers to …

City Council passes second reading of budget

The Loris City Council met at the American Legion Hall on Thursday, July 25, at 6 p.m. for the second reading of the ordinance Mayor Todd Harrelson opened the meeting with a tapping of the gavel and giving the invocation and leading the pledge of allegiance.  Council members in attendance were Joan Gause, Lewis Hardee, Terrence Hardee, Mike Suggs; Jan Vescovi was absent from the meeting.  Department heads attending the meeting were Brandon Harrelson, Police Chief Gary Buley, Lt. The 18th Annual Ocean Drive Presbyteruab Church Golf Tournament will be played on Saturday, Aug. 24, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at Eagle Nest Golf Course in Little River. NMB 11-12 year-old All-Stars finish second in Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournament

The North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department 11 and 12 year-old All-Star team made it all the way to the final game of the Dixie Youth State Championship Tournament before losing 6-2 to Edgefield County to end their dream of going to the Dixie Youth World Series. North Myrtle Beach got to the finals by beating Greenwood 6-1 in their first game, then beating Hartsville 12-0. They lost their third game to Edgefield County by a 7-1 score, then qualified for the finals with an 11-10 win last Wednesday over Union County, which sent them into the final game …

The city of North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation will hold a naming and dedication ceremony for the Joe Lategano Court located at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center on Possum Trot Road on Wednesday, July 31 at 5:30 p.m. Coach Joe Lategano will be recognized for his many years as a coach, mentor and supporter of North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation. Commission to discuss annexation of Possum Trot

The North Myrtle Beach Planning Commission will hold a special workshop on Friday, July 26, at 2 p.m., at City Hall to discuss Annexation & Zoning Designation ANZ‐19‐01 involving a petition to annex lands currently occupied by the Possum Trot Golf Course and zone those lands Planned Development District (PDD) with the creation of the Tidal Walk PDD. This item was tabled by the Planning Commission at its regular meeting on July 16 and is also scheduled for the Planning Commission’s August 6 meeting agenda.

Kenedi Board, Young Miss Teen North Myrtle Beach

Kenedi Board, Young Miss Teen North Myrtle Beach, recently donated a collection of small toys, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other dental care supplies to Miles for Smiles, the school dental program based in Horry County.  Miles for Smiles began operation in 2004 by Little River Medical Center and now provides dental services to 26 schools in Horry County.  Assisting Ms. Board was Ashby Grace Reeves, Little Miss Horry County, and Easlyn Hall, Wee Miss North Myrtle Beach.
