The Loris city council met on Thursday, July 11, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall after the public hearing on the 2019-20 budget. Present at the meeting were Mayor Todd Harrelson, Council Members Joan Gause, Lewis Hardee, Mike Suggs and Jan Vescovi; Terrence Hardee was absent. Facebook is buzzing about the Loris Police Department (LPD) who observed a naked man on the side of the road near Church Street. The officer stopped and spoke with the man and then drove off.  A video is reported showing the man standing in what looks like he is wearing nothing at all.  Lt. Anderson Brothers Bank announces the promotion of Tammy Strickland as branch operations coordinator of the Loris 701 office located at 302 Hwy 701 N.  She joined Anderson Brothers Bank in 2015 and has advanced progressively through responsible positions. The North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department 7-8 year old machine pitch all-star team lost their first two games at the state Dixie Youth tournament in Florence over the weekend and were eliminated from the tournament. North Myrtle Beach first lost to the Bluffton Nationals squad by a 10-1 score and then lost their game in the losers bracket, as Saluda beat them 10-0. Doris Ann Lee Hooks Sanders, 68, of Conway passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Sanders was born on Nov. 26, 1950, in Loris to the late Stanley Lee and the late Letha Boyd Lee. She worked at Anchor Bank for many years and was the co-owner of L & D Distributors for twenty-five years. Doris was a loving mother, a gracious wife and devoted homemaker. David Carroll Buffkin, 63, of Green Sea passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. David was born on Feb. 9, 1956, in Loris to the late Carroll Lester Buffkin and the late Queta Vae Sides Buffkin. He worked as site manager for SC Rock at the Goretown Mine and was a member of Grassy Bay Baptist Church. David A. Gates, 75, of Little River passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.  Originally from the New England area, David resided in Little River for the past 30 years. Born on May 30, 1944, in Attleboro, Maine, he was the youngest child of the late George H. and Daisy O. (Nichols) Gates. Mr. Gates served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. Christian Vandegrift Holland Jr. affectionately known as “Colonel”, 89, of North Myrtle Beach died on Friday, July 5, 2019, at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. Born in Richmond, Va., the son of Christian Vandegrift and Anna Willis Holland, Christian graduated from Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., in 1948, where he lettered in baseball and football as a member of the undefeated 1947 varsity football team.
