Loris Fire Department along with Loris Police Department hosted the Grand Strand Trauma Services Team in updates to our area Trauma Program and in bleeding control training and equipment.  Two dozen responders learned current national trends, refreshed on basic and new bleeding control skills, learned about historical cases to large responses and new program updates.  Several LFD and LPD responders are also now trained in delivering  bleeding control training to our local civic groups, churches, business and general public.

Child Empowerment program helps promote self esteem

Bethel Zion Ministries located on Main Street in Loris began a new program they call Empowerment Kids Café`. Samone Spain-Farewell and her mother, Pastor Phyllis Spain wanted to create a program that would give the children who need a place to go during the summer daytime hours. The mission is to educate and motivate the children and youth to achieve curriculum standards for their grade level; to help those in resource classes to be academically prepared to enter into a regular classroom setting. Buck Creek Foundation is selling fruits, vegetables

The Buck Creek Foundation is a nonprofit organization for teens and adults with special needs.  Their focus is harvesting independence for people with special needs with a long-term goal of building homes for these young people to be able to live on their own with limited supervision.  They would be responsible for their daily care, chores to keep their homes clean and a work schedule to give them the independence to make the decisions that they can.  Of course some of these young adults will need assistance making difficult decisions, if they are able to manage their money, pay bills …

NMB All Star Teams begin State Championship hunt this weekend

Four North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department all star teams have successfully advanced to the state Dixie Youth championship.  The 7-8 year-old boys team is the first squad to begin their quest for a title as they travel to Florence to begin play in a twelve team double elimination tournament. Their first game is at 9 a.m. this Saturday and if they win (or lose) they can advance to the championship game which probably will occur next Thursday. North Myrtle Beach Lions celebrate 70th anniversary

The members of the North Myrtle Beach Lions had much to celebrate at their annual charter night held recently at the Tidewater. Amenities Center. In addition to installing officers, the group observed the celebration of 70 years of service to our local, state, national and international communities. Originally called the Ocean Drive Beach Lions Club, it received its charter on April 19, 1949, making it the oldest service organization in North Myrtle Beach. Land is placed in conservation easement

The city is in the process of buying about 100 acres of land next to the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex to expand the athletic facilities as well as allow for an apartment complex requested by an adjacent owner. Second and final reading of the two ordinances has not yet been scheduled.
