The 2019 Spring Fishing Classic is a free celebration taking place through March 3 at Bass Pro Shops in Myrtle Beach. The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs wrestling team capped a successful season with three second place finishers at the 4A state wrestling individual championships in Anderson, on February 22 and 23. The Chiefs also had a third place winner during the two-day event at the Anderson Civic center. Second place winners were Jackie Gore in the 145 pound class, Chase Simmons in 170 and Curtis Wolfe in the 220 pound group. Malachi Black took third in the 285 pound group. Marlene Hight Yancey, 65, of North Myrtle Beach passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019. Marlene was born on Oct. 12, 1953, in Warrenton, N.C., to the late A. B. (Bert) Hight and Elizabeth Peoples Hight. She attended Louisburg College. Marlene worked for the Chancellors Office at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. and the Vance and Guilford County Extension Office. She also worked numerous years for Guilford County Public Schools as a teacher assistant and was later a senior care assistant. Stanley W. Dolesh, 78, of Longs died on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, at his home. Born on Oct. 20, 1940; in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Stanley W. Sr. and Lillian Dolesh. He was a devoted husband to the late Mary C. Dolesh. North Myrtle Beach City Council voted last night on an ordinance that allows the city to grow its tax base without adding any additional burden on any city residents. A special city council meeting was scheduled to vote on the ordinance. The ordinance passed first reading. 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson released an extensive report from SLED. The report fully exonerates Horry County Council Chairman Johnny Gardner and his business partner, Luke Barefoot. County Council Chairman Gardner won the popular vote last November with over 80,000 votes cast. Gardner’s integrity in Horry County is beyond question. His popularity among residents only grows with the release of this report, coupled with the manner in which the chairman comported himself throughout the process.

Nelson “Edd” Powell, 68, of Little River passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, surrounded by family. Edd was born on Oct. 31, 1950, in Lake City to the late Olin and Hazel Powell. Edd attended Newberry College and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1974. Bobbie Jean Boatwright Morris, 89, of North Myrtle Beach died on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019.
