The Loris Police Department was dispatched to the BB&T Bank branch on Broad Street in the city on Thursday, Feb. 14, at approximately 1:30 p.m. The report states a light skinned black woman entered the bank telling the employees that she had a gun and demanded money. The employees never saw a weapon, but followed the instructions as the suspect took an undetermined amount of money and fled the bank on foot. When the Loris Police officers, including Chief Gary Buley, arrived within minutes of the robbery, they were able to swiftly shut down a perimeter. The roadways surrounding the …

The North Myrtle Beach Historical Preservation Society enjoyed a fun day at the 6th Annual Surfrider Oyster Roast and Bloody Mary Contest. The North Myrtle Beach Historical Preservation Society attended and gave away nesting houses, bird feeders and seed bombs for donations. The efforts were to continue to support the saving of Ingram Dunes. The preservation of this historic piece of land is the first major project for the group. The North Myrtle Beach Tree City Board has selected an oak tree located at Trinity United Methodist Church, at 706 14th Avenue South as its Tree of the Month for February. Those familiar with the tree’s history say it was planted in 1976 in memory of Jim Taibi, who passed away on June 2, 1976. Pastor Reverend William Williams, now a Methodist Bishop, presided over the ceremony and North Myrtle Beach gardener Jane McDaniel supervised the planting.
