February is National Sweet Potato Month

Sweet potatoes are one of my favorite tubers, and what better time to celebrate them than National Sweet Potato Awareness Month. I must admit, though, I didn’t become a real fan until I found out all of the health benefits and the delicious ways to use this colorful tuber. The sweet potato is an excellent source of vitamin A, which supports good vision, the immune system and bone growth. It’s also a good source of vitamin B-6, magnesium and vitamin C. Ken Sibal, 82, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, at home surrounded by his family in Little River. He was born on July 11, 1936, to Emil and Marie Sibal. Ken grew up in the Bronx, N.Y. He graduated from The McBurney School in Manhattan in 1952. After high school he received his BA degree from Lafayette College (Easton, Pa.) and his master’s degree from Florida State University (Tallahassee, Fla.). Wrestling team sends five to individual state championships

The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team traveled to Bluffton for the 4A SC High School Individual wrestling competition last Friday and Saturday. After two long days of matches the Chiefs qualified five team members for the individual state finals to be held in Anderson on February 22 and 23. Chiefs wrestlers met counterparts from teams across the lower state. If they lost a match up to and including the semifinals, then they would go into the consolation bracket of the competition. Aberdeen Country Club is set to reopen on Saturday

Aberdeen Country Club, a Founders Group International course, will reopen for public play on Saturday, February 23. The 27-hole facility, which closed in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence to rebuild its clubhouse, is in immaculate condition with the Grand Strand’s peak spring season on the immediate horizon. My column this week is from John 17:20-26, “Jesus Prays for All Believers.” Verse 20 – “My prayer is not for them alone, I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message.” As you may recall, last week Jesus prayed for His disciples.
