By SAMANTHA BOYD

On Jan. 24, the Loris Civitan Club welcomed Horry County Sheriff Phillip Thompson. He spoke about the progress of the county and local communities moving forward and working together in the new year.

Cobi Williams, Civitan president, said, “it was an honor to host Sheriff Thompson at the first meeting of the Loris Civitan Club for 2023. The sheriff and the rest of the folks with the Horry County sheriff’s office does a fine job of serving and protecting the citizens of our great community.”

The Civitan Club is an organization of community service clubs around the nation dedicated to helping others and making a difference, with a special emphasis on assisting people with developmental disabilities.

Membership provides opportunities for personal growth, leadership and organizational experience. Many join to meet civic-minded people, enjoy fellowship and do something truly fulfilling with their free time. The Loris Civitan Club focuses its volunteer efforts on supporting local high school sports and helping students with intellectual disabilities.

Williams is in charge of meetings, fundraising and arranging guest speakers. Loris Civitan Club meets twice a month.
