Central Park Pickleball Complex groundbreaking ceremony is Saturday

The City of North Myrtle Beach invites the community to celebrate the groundbreaking of the future Central Park Pickleball Complex located on Possum Trot Road. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 25, at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Pickleball with the Stars event at 10 a.m. at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center. The new complex will feature fifteen pickleball courts, including a covered championship court, a small clubhouse with restrooms, vending, office space and open lawn seating for spectators. Water transmission line construction to cause temporary closures

In addition to the crews working on Poinsett Street, the RH Moore Company will mobilize a second crew to install the new 30-inch water transmission line on Windy Hill Road Extension starting on Friday, October 24, and Monday, October 27.    The first closure will take place on the road exiting the Windy Hill shopping area Friday, with a second road closure taking place on Windy Hill Extension and the Walgreens back entrance on Monday. Knights accepting donations for school kids coat drive

By Pat Kastner The Knights of Columbus, Council 7122 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach sponsors a yearly project which helps to provide coats for kids in need of a coat in the winter months. The council recently distributed or are in the process of distributing coats for kids in the North Myrtle Beach Community.  Students at the following schools are the beneficiaries of this endeavor: Riverside Elementary School, Ocean Drive Elementary School, Waterway Elementary School, North Myrtle Beach Middle School and Holy Trinity Catholic School. Seasonal short term rental trash collection ends

The City of North Myrtle Beach has concluded its seasonal short-term rental trash collection schedule this past weekend. Beginning this week, trash from short-term rental properties will be collected on each property’s regular scheduled pick-up day. Recycling services will also continue but only on the designated regular pick-up day. Property managers are encouraged to remind renters of their assigned trash and recycling collection days and times at check-in. Residents and visitors are asked to keep all trash contained within approved receptacles and avoid placing bins where they block sidewalks or pedestrian access.

Ecotots learn to make recycled bird feeders

By Mary Templeton The Budding Ecotots learned the importance of “Reducing, Reusing and Recycling“ at their Friday, October 17, meeting with the Yaupon Garden Club Ecotot committee. YGC member Margaret Graham led the meeting. She introduced Kendra Dickerson from the Horry County Solid Waste Authority who explained why it is so important to keep our streams, lakes and ocean clean. Belinda Roy showed the children how to recycle a one liter plastic bottle into a bird feeder. The North Myrtle Beach City Council met in a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, October 20, at 6 p.m. at North Myrtle Beach City Hall. There were two items on the Consent agenda: ORDINANCE/SECOND READING: Amend Chapter 7, Business License, Taxes and Regulations, of the Code of Ordinances of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to update the Class Schedule as required by Act 176 of 2020 (APPROVED). Nighttime lane closures planned on SC 9 for repairs

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has begun bridge repair work on SC 9 Northbound over US 17 starting on Sunday, October 12. This project will require nighttime lane closures that may impact residents and visitors traveling through the North Myrtle Beach area. Work is scheduled to take place Sunday, October 12, through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the end of October.
