Around 4 p.m. on Monday, October 6, units were dispatched to a reported boat fire off the coast of Cherry Grove in the ocean near the Cherry Grove Pier. Due to this being an active incident in the ocean and not easily accessible, numerous agencies coordinated in the response and a Unified Command was established on the beach at Sea Mountain Highway in North Myrtle Beach. First arriving fire personnel made visual contact from the shore to begin providing information for additional responding agencies. It was the third opportunity for them to provide input to the Comprehensive Plan Update Survey. By Gianna Forbis The North Myrtle Beach Tree Board has designated a Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Cinerea) as the October Tree of the Month. This evergreen, native to Australia, can be found on 14th Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach. Eucalyptus will grow in coastal South Carolina but needs to be protected during prolonged freezing temperatures. The aromatic leaves are a silvery-green, but the bark and leaves can be toxic to people and animals.

Despite a forecast of rain, the threat of a tropical storm and declarations of state of emergency by area municipalities, people still turned out to enjoy some green beer, eat and enjoy music from two separate stages set up on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. CenterWell had a grand opening for a new location at Surfwood Shopping Center in North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday, September 30.
