Chiefs take down Seahawks 54-47 in rival region game

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs (7-12) at Myrtle Beach Seahawks (6-8) in a rival game. Both teams gladly threw out their records. Both teams needed a win and hated losing to their 6AAAAA region neighbor. It was a game that met and exceeded all expectations. There were competing cheer teams trying to out-cheer their opposites across court. A few alumni who used to wear their team jersey back for this one. Lady Chiefs beat Mullins and Myrtle Beach for 17-0 record

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs solidified their number one rank in 5A basketball with two more wins last week. The Chiefs first win was a 63-23 win over Mullins in a MLK tournament held last Monday at Marion. The Chiefs led the Lady Auctioneers 16-10 after the first quarter of play and increased their lead to 29-16 at halftime. Lady Chiefs continue their undefeated hoops season

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs continued their undefeated basketball season last week, winning home games Tuesday and Friday over Carolina Forest and St. James. The 15-0 Chiefs expected a tough game against the Panthers who came into NMB with an 11-3 record, 2-0 in region play. The Panthers and the Chiefs played “one of the best competitive games so far” according to Lady Chiefs head coach Heather Kearney. “We would make a play, and they would make a play. Boys basketball 1-3 in region

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity boys basketball team fell to 1-3 in the 6AAAAA region after playing Carolina Forest and St. James, two top teams in the region. The Chiefs tangled with the Panthers last Tuesday at the NMB gym. The Panthers were 10-3 overall and 2-1 in the region, their only loss to St. James by a 74-57 score. Chiefs wrestlers fall 33-39 to Myrtle Beach

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs varsity wrestlers were hoping for another home win last Wednesday evening, but the Seahawks built a big lead, and the Chiefs comeback fell one individual win short and a 36-39 region loss. The Chiefs got off to a good start with Levi Wheeler’s pin giving the Chiefs a 12-5 lead. The Seahawks responded with a pin, two technical fall decisions, a Chiefs forfeit and another Seahawks pin and Myrtle Beach led 33-12. Wrestling team beats Conway senior night

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team beat Conway 47-35 last Wednesday on senior night at the school’s gym. The Chiefs six seniors were introduced and honored prior to the start of individual competition; Conway then took a 6-12 and 11-24 lead before the Chiefs fought back. The Chiefs won two matches to trail 23-24, then were behind 23-29 before tying the score on a pin at 29-29. Basketball opens region play at home

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School girls and boys varsity teams began 6AAAAA region play last week with home and away encounters against Conway and Socastee. The Lady Chiefs opened their region schedule at home last Tuesday with Conway visiting North Myrtle Beach. By games end it was apparent to the Lady Tigers that the Lady Chiefs were not very hospitable. The Chiefs won 70-13. Chiefs basketball teams head into region schedule

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity basketball teams have finished the “preseason” part of their 2025-26 schedule and now head into region 6-5A games this week. The Chiefs boys team finished their non-region games last week at the HTC Invitational Tournament at Waccamaw High School. The Chiefs opened tournament play with a 41-39 win over Ragin Prep Christian Academy. The Chiefs outscored the Rams 13-2 in the first quarter of the game and led 22-10 at halftime. Knights Of Columbus to sponsor youth free throw championship

By John Earnest All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2026 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the North Myrtle Beach Middle School Gymnasium at 11240 SC-90 in Little River. The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district and state competitions. Chiefs go 1-2 in Shootout by the Sea Tournament

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs boys basketball team finished the Shootout by the Sea Tournament at NMB High School with a 1-2 record. The Chiefs opened tournament play on Saturday, December 20, against the First Baptist Hurricanes from Charleston, S.C. The Chiefs took a 15-12 first quarter lead and the teams were tied 22-22 at halftime. The Chiefs outscored the Hurricanes in the third quarter and led 36-33 going into the fourth quarter.
