NMB Chiefs open 6AAAA playoffs with 73-51 win over Hilton Head then beat North Augusta 60-55

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs boys basketball team made the long trip to Hilton Head last Wednesday and dominated the Seahawks with a 73-51 victory in the first round of the SC High School League playoffs. The Chiefs continued their playoffs with a 60-55 win over North Augusta last Saturday and moved to round three of the state 6AAAA playoffs. The Chiefs opened the scoring at Hilton Head with a lay-up by Chad Beasley, a free throw from Javi Marlowe and a basket down low for a 5-2 lead. Chiefs boys, girls varsity basketball teams in state playoff games this week

The North Myrtle Beach boys and girls basketball teams both won their final region games last week and start 6AAAA playoffs this week. Both teams travelled to Marlboro County for their last region games of the season. The girls squad that beat Marlboro County 58-45 on Jan. 24 slipped by the Lady Bulldogs by a 63-58 score.  Jenna Berger led the scoring for the Lady Chiefs with 25 points. Chiefs wrestlers beat Beaufort to get to Lower State game but lose to Hartsville to end season

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team beat visiting Beaufort last Monday 42-31 to earn a berth in the Lower State Championship match but then lost to Hartsville on Wednesday by a 42-29 score. The match against Beaufort got off to a good start for the Chiefs as their 220-pound wrestler Clay Butler pinned Degin Lowery in :59. Malachi Black (285) then took only 47 seconds to pin Terrence Wilson and the Chiefs had a 12-0 lead. Chiefs baseball coach Alderson gets ready for another 6AAAA season

North Myrtle BeachHigh School varsity baseball coach Brian Alderson is spending his February afternoons after classes at the Chiefs baseball field, going through the paces with his players before the start of the season on March 10. Alderson begins his sixth year as head coach with a goal of getting further in 6AAAA play. “We were 21-8 last year but finished the year losing the district championship game for the third year in a row. The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team continued their winning ways last week as they beat Conway 45-22 on Monday at home and then took care of West Brunswick 42-35 and New Hanover 65-18 in a visit to Shallotte on Wednesday. The Chiefs win over Conway began at the 126-pound weight class as Naszeir Bellamy won by forfeit and a 6-0 score. NMB Chiefs wrestlers finish second in Chiefs Classic

The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team hosted eight teams last Saturday for the Chiefs Classic, “Brawl on the River”, at North Myrtle Beach gym and after a long day finished in second place behind Carolina Forest. North Myrtle Beach, Beaufort, North Charleston, Stratford, Loris, Waccamaw, Carolina Forest and Fairfield each wrestled four duals during the tournament, where individual matches earned points for the school’s team and eventually the final team winner. Chiefs teams beat visiting Conway in doubleheader

The North Myrtle Beach High School girls and boys basketball teams gave the visiting Conway teams a double beating last Tuesday, with the girls winning 56-4. That’s not a typo. Then the boys team put on a defensive show with a 55-31 victory. The Lady Chiefs opened the scoring when Riley Vincent swished a three-point shot soon after the game started. AAST wins state championship

The Academy for Arts, Science, and Technology High School’s We The People Competition Team won the State Championship on Friday Dec. 13, 2019 in Columbia. This was the teams first ever championship victory in which they took 5 of the 6 best unit awards. The students will move on and compete at the Nationals to be held in Washington D.C., April 24-27. North Myrtle Beach wrestling team wins Low Country Duals

The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team won the Low Country Duals last week 4-0 at Waccamaw High School as they beat four teams on their way to the title. The Chiefs began the competition with a 64-12 victory over Marion. The Chiefs first two wrestlers, Jackson Smith (106) and Jacob Moss (113), both won by forfeit. NMB girls, boys varsity basketball teams continue winning ways

The North Myrtle Beach girls and boys basketball teams continued a successful start to their regular season with wins over Carolina Forest and Loris last Tuesday and Friday at home. The Lady Chiefs beat a pesky Carolina Forest squad 42-34 on Tuesday, then took care of Loris Friday night by a 50-31 score. The boys won their game against Carolina Forest by a 66-59 score, then scored in the last seconds of the fourth quarter to beat Loris 44-43.
