North Myrtle Beach City Council Schedule Meetings

Just a reminder that the regularly scheduled North Myrtle Beach City Council meetings for July, August, September and November in calendar year 2019 are: July 15, August 19, September 16 and November 4. All other months in calendar year 2019 follow the normal two-per-month meeting schedule: Dates are: October 7, October 21, December 2 and December 16. City Council has the option to hold special called council meetings when necessary. If such meetings are necessary  public notice and agendas are shared via www.NMB.us, www.Facebook.com/cityofnmb and through the city’s email news groups.

Lions install new officers

The Little River Lions Club held its annual installation and awards dinner on June 18 at Mulligan’s Restaurant in Little River. The Family Summer Event at Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s began on Saturday, June 22, featuring free fun workshops, activities and games where kids and families can learn skills to enjoy great outdoor adventures together. Knights of Columbus help community

Number 7122 from Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach continues serving in North Myrtle Beach and the surrounding areas.They raise money in various ways to help those in need. One of the ways is the food pantry that is located at the church. Proceeds are raised through their pasta dinners which are hosted every first Tuesday of the month. City reacts to County’s decision to collect hospitality, accommodations taxes within city limits

Today, June 25, Horry County announced it intends to collect hospitality and accommodations taxes within the city of North Myrtle Beach. Only the city of North Myrtle Beach has the legal right to establish and collect these taxes within its jurisdiction. Horry County has absolutely no authority to do so and is in clear violation of law. In overwhelming fashion, the recent Court order associated with CIVIL ACTION NO. 2019-CP-26-01732 opposed Horry County’s actions in this regard. Band will present free concert

Main Street repaving is complete

City administrator Damon Kempski announced at the council meetings that Main Street is scheduled for repaving from Broad Street to Loris Elementary School.  On Thursday, June 20, Palmetto Corp. of Conway began scraping the street of the old pavement.  Paving began on Thursday, June 20, and will be complete on Wednesday June 26. Traffic has been redirected and single lanes were open for cars traveling on Main Street.  Residents will be pleased with the results as there will be no more potholes and front-end alignments of their vehicles.

Part of building collapses

Photos by Trudie’s Treasures This was taken minutes after the collapse showing all the materials located on the sidewalk and in the street.

On Monday shortly after 1 p.m. the awning and side of the building of the former Mystic Motion located on the corner of Main Street and Railroad Avenue collapsed.  The building had been undergoing renovations from damages caused by previous hurricanes when the wall fell.  Main Street was blocked off shortly after the collapse and remained closed until Tuesday afternoon.
