Local queens head to Columbia for pageants

The Loris Chamber of Commerce holds the Miss Bog-Off pageant in September each year to promote the October event and to select the Miss Loris Bog-Off Festival Queen and Teen who work throughout the year preparing for the Miss South Carolina Pageant that is held in June each year. This week Ragan Dennis, Miss Loris Bog-Off Festival Queen, and Sarah Carroll, Miss Loris Bog-Off Festival Teen, headed to Columbia to compete in the two pageants that began on Tuesday, June 25, at the Township Auditorium.  The preliminary competitions will be held each night through Thursday, June 27, when the 2019 …

Loris Recreation Department

Jordan Waste Management owners Jonathan Powell and Jason Martin presented a check in the amount of $12,000 to Mayor Todd Harrelson on Monday, June 24, at 2 p.m.  The funds are designated to benefit the Loris Recreation Department. Register for benefit golf tournament

The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety and Tidewater Golf Club are sponsoring a golf tournament that will benefit the children of the Department of Public Safety. All proceeds from the event will go toward the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was established by the family of Johnny L. Causey Sr. to honor his memory. He served as a police officer, police chief and the first director of public safety for the city of North Myrtle Beach. Six teams representing city

The 2019 spring baseball and softball all stars are in full swing for the city of North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation department. Six teams are representing NMB in their respective district tournaments over the next couple of weeks in hopes of making it to the state tournaments. These indviduals were chosen as top players in their league by the coaches to represent the city of North Myrtle Beach. Vernon K. Greene

Vernon K. Greene, 93, of Myrtle Beach died on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Palmetto Assisted Living in Murrells Inlet. Born on April 17, 1926, in Decatur, Ill., he was the son of the late Earle and Henrietta Porter Greene. Mr. Greene was a member of Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church in North Myrtle Beach. Survivors include his wife, Paulette Scales Greene; three sons, Michael Greene, Mark Greene and Matt Greene; daughter, Laura Bauman; 12 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. The Rev. Ronald J. Schlegel, 85, of North Myrtle Beach passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018.
