Peter’s second and third denials

My column this week is from John 18:19-27, where “The High Priest Questions Jesus” and “Peter’s Second and Third Denials.” Verse 19 – Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and His teaching. These were not legal questions asked by the high priest since witnesses were supposed to be brought in first to establish guilt. The accused was not required to prove His innocence. St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Festival set for Saturday

The 31st Annual North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival is on Saturday, March 16, on Main Street. The parade begins at 9 a.m. and the festival is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The one-day rain or shine event attracts more than 30,000 people annually. The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade presenting sponsor. The North Strand Optimist Club organizes the parade, and all entry fees go back into helping the youth of our community. Small is grand marshal

Marlisa Small, philanthropist, performer, business woman and patriot, is the grand marshal for the 2019 North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 16. Preview(opens in a new tab) She recently made the top 10 finalists at the 2018 Ms. Senior America Pageant in Atlantic City. In November 2018, she won the Education Award for the Outstanding Non-profit for her charity. NMB Naval Junior ROTC Unit wins big at meet

The Naval Junior ROTC at North Myrtle Beach High School was successful at the Carolina Forest Drill meet on Saturday, March 9. The drill team placed 2nd overall against many schools in the county including a school which competes on the national level. Trophies received included 1st place in Freshman Colorguard, 2nd place in Freshman Squad and Armed Squad and 3rd place in Unarmed Squad, Exhibition Squad, Armed Platoon and Unarmed Platoon. High Tide Ultimate Frisbee Tournament during spring break

The city of North Myrtle Beach has 2,600 college athletes arriving this week for spring training. Groups of students will be participating in the High Tide Ultimate Frisbee Tournament at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex now through March 30. This group of students from Georgetown University is here for the tournament and are enjoying the beach as a bonus.

Lacrosse team gets first win

The North Myrtle Beach High School Lacrosse Teams have finally had their first wins. The boys junior varisity team beat the Myrtle Beach High School Junior Varsity team at home on Saturday, March 9. This win was the first lacrosse win by any lacrosse team in the history of the high school. The final score of the junior varsity game was 3-2 in favor of the Chiefs. Wyndham Freeman, an eighth grader, played goalie during the third and fourth quarters and Alex Williams played in goal during the first and second quarters and even scored in the second half. The …

High school spring sports well underway

Along with variable temperatures and yellow pollen, spring means lots of sports action by a variety of North Myrtle Beach High School varsity teams. Last Saturday the Chiefs varsity baseball team opened their home season with an 8-3 win over visiting West Brunswick. The Chiefs opened the scoring on a double by Austin Fine for a 1-0 lead after four innings. West Brunswick got three runs in the top of the fifth inning for a brief lead. However, the Chiefs bats exploded for seven runs and kept West Brunswick scoreless the rest of the way. The Chiefs had a busy …

Pickleball tournament has successful two-day event

The 10th Paddle at the Beach Pickleball Tournament concluded play on Saturday afternoon after two days of volleying between 34 men’s and 21 women’s teams. The tournament kicked off on Friday with “pool” competition and changed to a double elimination format on Saturday. Tournament director Rick Harpster explained. “Our format is very popular with players because many tournaments use the double elimination format throughout. This means if you lose a match you drop into the losers bracket. If you lose again you are eliminated from the tournament. We feel this is unfair to the teams who often travel to our …

Sea Haven Says Thank You

Sea Haven extends a heart-felt thank you to Publix Super Market Charities for a generous grant of $10,000.  Funding will support the food programs of Sea Haven by meeting the immediate needs of each youth in the Sea Haven Street Outreach Program and the Sea Haven Shelter Home.  Emergency food pantries and hot meals and snacks are located in the programs and food boxes in the Sea Haven Transitional Living Program support youth with moving into safe housing while transitioning to independent living.  Sea Haven is proud to partner with Publix Charities in supporting the mission of the organization to …
