Read More »Volunteers have very successful food drive
Under the coordination of North Myrtle Beach Lions Club President and Little River Rotarian Sandy Boggs, a very successful food collection took place last week. Eleven hundred bags, generously donated by Food Lion, were distributed to residents of Plantation Pines, Pine Needle Estate, Coquina Harbor, Heather Glenn and Colonial Charter communities. A few days later the volunteers combed the neighborhoods for bags of non-perishable food items. The donations were delivered to several local church food banks including: Trinity United Methodist, Little River United Methodist, Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic, Living Water Baptist and North Myrtle Beach Vineyard Churches.

Each year the North Myrtle Beach Lions Club participates in a Lions International art competition. This year the contest, which is aimed for middle school students, had as its theme ”Together as One”. The local Lions collaborated with Merideth Craven, the middle school art teacher at North Myrtle Beach Middle School. Lion Nils Regnell collected the students’ submissions and the Lions voted for the winners. Checks were awarded to the three top artists. The first place drawing will move onto district, state, national and international competition.

North Myrtle Beach Middle School students know how to turn trash into treasures. The school submitted an entry to the Horry County Solid Waste Authority’s annual POP (Protect Our Planet) Art Recycling Contest. Eighth grader Edwin Mendoza created an ocean scene made out of crayons entitled “The World is in Our Hands”, which was selected as the grand prize winner in the Horry County Solid Waste Authority’s POP Art Contest. By Amanda Player Wofford Over the weekend of November 15–16, six all-star teams from the City of North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department competed in their respective South Carolina Athletic Programs (SCAP) district tournaments. The competing teams included 10U, 12U and 15U co-ed soccer, as well as 10U, 12U and 14U volleyball. Soccer teams traveled to Sumter, while volleyball teams competed in Johnsonville. In soccer action, the 10U team opened its single-elimination tournament with an impressive 10–0 win before falling 3–0 in the second round. The Lady Chiefs opened their schedule with a 71-13 blowout of the West Brunswick Lady Trojans, while the Chiefs had to battle back to tie their game at the end of regulation 44-44, and then won it in overtime 53-46. Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) invited residents of Loris and surrounding communities to a Community Forum on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m. at the Main Street Theatre at 4149 Main Street in Loris.
