Chiefs basketball moves into week three

By John Smithson

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs varsity basketball teams start week three of competition this week, continuing non-region games and getting more experience for the schedule ahead.

The boys team started the season with a 3-0 record but lost three games in a row and stand at 3-3. The Chiefs lost the final game of the Green Sea Floyds tournament and then last week lost 41-33 to West Florence on Tuesday at Florence.

The Chiefs were behind 26-18 at halftime and couldn’t get any closer in the second half. No player scored in double figures. Mason Walker scored 7 points to lead the Chiefs but was only 1 for 9 from beyond the arc. The Chiefs also had 22 turnovers in the game.

Last Friday night at home the Chiefs were down 26-25 at the half against Loris but again couldn’t make a second half comeback. As a team the Chiefs were 2 for 11 in three-point shots and Loris pulled away in the second half for a 59-52 win over the Chiefs. Chance Floyd led the Chiefs in scoring with 15 points. Caden Bass had 14 points and Primere Lewis scored 12 points.

The Chiefs played West Brunswick Monday night and lost 54-47. The Chiefs will play away at Loris Friday night.

The Lady Chiefs continued their winning ways. They have been strong on defense, held West Florence to 15 points in their 58-15 win at West Florence. Last Friday night they dominated Loris at home, once again playing the entire second half of the game with a running clock. The final in that one was 72-11.

The Lady Chiefs played Monday at West Brunswick and won 62-23. They played Wednesday at Laney and play Loris tomorrow night at Loris High School.
