City accepting applications for Public Arts Commission

By Gianna Forbis

The City of North Myrtle Beach is now accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the North Myrtle Beach Public Arts Commission.

The Public Arts Commission plays an important role in establishing a body to guide facade grant improvements and reinforcing the role of arts and design in the community. The city’s 2018 Comprehensive Plan calls for strengthening the visual aspect, identity and characteristics of the North Myrtle Beach historic main streets. The goal continues to be promoting these areas as vibrant cultural destinations, attractive to residents and visitors and encourage compatible new investment.

The five-member commission is appointed by the mayor with the approval of city council. Members serve four-year terms with limits on consecutive years of service.

The Commission’s responsibilities include: awarding Facade Improvement Grants, selecting artists for public art projects, recommending policies for art and culture, fostering community partnerships with city businesses and local stakeholders

City residents who are passionate about enhancing public arts opportunities are encouraged to apply. This is a meaningful opportunity to serve your community and help guide the continued development of Main Street and the vibrant feel of the North Myrtle Beach community.
