HC Planning and Zoning seeks input

By Kaye Collins

Horry County Planning and Zoning is seeking your input through the Industrial Corridors Survey as part of the IMAGINE 2040 Five-Year Review.

Horry County is seeking public feedback on its proposal to establish industrial corridors within its Future Land Use Map, which will enhance the planning of industrial placements. The plan will identify multiple corridors for industrial growth to minimize land use conflicts, offer direction to industrial developers, and promote economic development. This survey is designed to gather opinions from the public and stakeholders regarding suitable and unsuitable areas for these corridors.

The Future Land Use Map serves as a policy framework for the county’s land utilization, highlighting areas where different uses are either promoted or discouraged. It does not constitute zoning and will not alter the current land uses permitted in the industrial corridors.

Your county government is committed to a thorough strategy for revising and modifying the Future Land Use Map, which will involve public participation, stakeholder engagement, and guidance from the Planning Commission. The project timeline is outlined in the survey. Visit survey123.arcgis.com/share/e6eb299b07b947868c6bc3aa76356817.

A list of questions with locations mapped include, which locations in Horry County are suitable for light industrial uses (warehousing, storage and small-scale manufacturing)? Which locations in Horry County are suitable for heavy industrial uses (asphalt production, concrete production, scrap metal processing)?

Which locations in Horry County are not suitable for industrial uses?

Comments blocks are positioned to give an opportunity to voice your opinions for questions such as, Do you have any concerns about existing industrial areas? Do you have concerns that might apply to new industrial areas? Do you have any comments on opportunities for industrial development that might apply to new industrial areas? What land use and other needs should be considered when prioritizing areas for industrial land uses? The survey will close on April 30, 2026.

This is your opportunity to help shape the future of your community. Through the survey, you can share your thoughts and opinions on how you would like to see Horry County grow and develop.

Your input helps local government make choices that will benefit your community and quality of life. This is your county, and we want to hear your voice about the future.
