Jeri McCumbee announces run for city council

Jeri McCumbee announced on Monday that she will be running for the North Myrtle Beach City Council Windy Hill District.

Jeri McCumbee has announced her plans to run for the North Myrtle Beach City Council Windy Hill District.

“I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for my candidacy,” said McCumbee. “I have had conversations with people living in every area of our city and I believe that I have the right experience and the proven work ethic to best serve our residents,” she continued.

McCumbee has built a reputation as a reliable local business leader, beginning her career with MedCare (formerly Access Medical Center) in Windy Hill in 1992 and eventually working her way up to partner. She continues to serve as Director of Operations for the company from their Windy Hill office.

“I think it’s important to be an independent voice on council. We live in a great city and each year I think we see improvements all around us, but we need to be careful to make sure that those successes don’t take away the quality of life we all enjoy,” McCumbee said. “I think there are ways to limit development through decreased density, by working closely with other state and local leaders on growth outside of our city that still has an impact on our residents, and perhaps most importantly to make sure our roads and infrastructure can keep up,” she said.

Jeri McCumbee is a lifelong resident of Horry County and an active member of the community. McCumbee was appointed by Republican State Senator Greg Hembree to the SC Education Oversight Committee and has served on a variety of boards and commissions including the McLeod Health Foundation Board, the NMB Chamber Board and the YMCA North Strand Advisory Board. As a member of the North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club McCumbee founded the Purses with Purpose that has raised over $600,000 to assist local charities.

McCumbee is a mother and stepmother to six wonderful girls and has four grandsons and one granddaughter.

McCumbee has pledged to run a positive, grassroots campaign focused on the issues that matter most to the people of North Myrtle Beach. She plans to have an official campaign kick-off later this year.
