Loris Middle School hosts 100 women for lunch

Loris Middle School (LMS) invited women to come to the school for the 100 Women for Lunch program on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 10:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students from the sixth, seventh and eighth grades invited parents, grandparents or a strong woman they know who has encouraged them through the tough times as well as the easy times in life. Third annual Lacy Hardee baseball tournament held

Loris High School hosted the third annual Lacy Hardee Memorial Pre-Season Baseball Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 29, beginning at 9 a.m. The tournament has been the opening scrimmage baseball games in honor of Lacy Hardee who passed away in May 2017. He left the world with one less baseball coach, fan, photographer and writer. On a cold windy morning the teams took to the dugouts preparing to warm up on the field.  Concessions were open selling hotdogs and hot coffee to keep spectators warm inside. Daisy Elementary raises funds for their projects

Daisy Elementary School students, teachers and staff attended their fundraiser at Bojangles in Loris on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. Bojangles and Daisy team up to raise funds for the school; they give the school ten percent of their total sales from 4 to 8 p.m. at the end of each quarter. Parents, students, teachers and staff joined in the fun at Bojangles fundraiser for Daisy Elementary School on Thursday evening. Loris Middle School Archery

Loris Middle School Archery Team placed 2nd as a team with a score of 1536, only six points from first place. Micah Strickland, 4th place middle school male, scored 263. Mackenzie won 3rd place overall for middle school females and 2nd place for 6th grade females with a score of 250. Darrell Graham is the archery team coach. City establishes a film and arts commission

A special council meeting was held on Monday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall.  Present at the meeting were council members Joan Gause, Lewis Hardee, Terrence Hardee, Mike Suggs and Jan Vescovi and Mayor Todd Harrelson.  Carroll D. Padgett had a previous engagement and was not able to attend. Lions are getting a new head football coach

Coach William “Greg” Mance has accepted the position of head coach for the Loris Lions.  He brings to Loris High School his 23 years of experience as a football coach at Richlands High School in Virginia. The official announcement was made when the Horry County School Board approved Mance to replace 10 year veteran Jamie Snyder. Mance’s record speaks for itself with 205 wins, 12 Southwest District Championships, 19 consecutive play-off appearances, five Virginia High School League state championship game appearances and a state title and taking the Richlands Blue Tornados to vie for state championships. NMB Chiefs season ends with loss to Seahawks

The basket made the score 31-23 Myrtle Beach, as the Chiefs tried to battle back from a 29-19 Seahawks lead at halftime. Lady Chiefs playoff run ends with loss at North Augusta

The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs third round game with North Augusta ended their season as the Lady Yellow Jackets advanced by a 75-60 score. The Lady Chiefs had a  long day of travel and then had to face a team that has won three straight state championships and was 43-0 at home. Faced with those obstacles North Myrtle Beach got off to a slow start in the first quarter, trailing 20-10 after eight minutes. The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs opened the South Carolina High School League playoffs with an impressive 70-26 victory over visiting South Aiken last Tuesday at North Myrtle Beach. Thursday night the Lady Chiefs continued their impressive showing with a 49-33 win over #1 seed Bluffton and a third-round game on Monday. Tuesday’s win over South Aiken began with the Lady Chiefs taking the opening tip and within seconds Jordan Berger hit a jump shot from the left side and it was 2-0. High school boys soccer team wins the Nash Tournament

The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity soccer team won the boys portion of the Michael B. Nash Soccer Tournament this past weekend at the city of North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. The Chiefs beat Carolina Forest 3-2, Conway 4-0 and then beat Socastee to win the championship. The Lady Chiefs opened the tournament with a 7-0 win over Conway but lost to Socastee and St. James by identical 3-2 scores.
