Wrestling team sends eight wrestlers to individual championships

The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team competed in the Lower State Individual Championship in Bluffton last Friday and Saturday and sent eight wrestlers to the state championships next weekend in Anderson. The individual championship is just that, wrestlers in each weight class that wrestle team members from other 4A schools, all of whom are seeded according to their regular season records. In order to qualify for the state championship, wrestlers must win every match in order to finish number one, or if they lose, must win enough to finish second through fourth and qualify. NMB Chiefs open 6AAAA playoffs with 73-51 win over Hilton Head then beat North Augusta 60-55

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs boys basketball team made the long trip to Hilton Head last Wednesday and dominated the Seahawks with a 73-51 victory in the first round of the SC High School League playoffs. The Chiefs continued their playoffs with a 60-55 win over North Augusta last Saturday and moved to round three of the state 6AAAA playoffs. The Chiefs opened the scoring at Hilton Head with a lay-up by Chad Beasley, a free throw from Javi Marlowe and a basket down low for a 5-2 lead. McCumbee is St. Patrick’s Day parade grand marshal

Jeri Lorraine McCumbee was born and raised in Horry County and graduated from Green Sea Floyds High School. She is the daughter of Toni Phillips and Bobby McCumbee. She grew up in the farming world of tobacco, a major crop when she was a child. After graduation, she attended Spartanburg Methodist College. There was no keeping the salt out of her hair, so she returned to the coast. Of course, the only jobs for young people on the beach in the 80’s were the tourist and restaurant industries. NMB City Council proposed budget includes initial funding for EOC, DMC new additions

The North Myrtle Beach City Council held its fiscal year 2021 budget retreat meeting Feb. 24-25 at Santee Cooper’s Wampee Conference Center in Pinopolis which was open to the public. The city’s fiscal year is July 1-June 30. The proposed budget involves 17 separate funds with significant interrelations and transfers between the various funds. The proposed FY 2021 budget is about $119 million, an increase of about $27 million over the FY 2020 budget. The budget proposes a property tax increase of about 7.9 mils, most of which would go toward funding an expansion of the North Myrtle Beach Park …

Evelyn J. Baranowski Scott, 55, of Longs died on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, at McLeod Seacoast Medical Center in Little River. Born on October 1, 1964, in Fairfax, Va., she was the daughter of Zarndra Piper Baranowski and the late Edward Baranowski.
