Eleven graduates from North Myrtle Beach High School gathered for a special reunion on Aug. 24, 2019. The occasion was to celebrate the seven 1971 North Myrtle Beach High School graduates and their daughters, who graduated together in 1991. “When I was in high school, I recognized that the mothers of two of my classmates graduated with my mother,” said Teowonna Clifton, organizer of the gathering. “I thought that was a wonderful coincidence that bonded us.” Years later, Clifton decided to host a luncheon to bring together the mothers who were classmates and their daughters who were also classmates. “But …

The North Myrtle Beach Tree City Board selected a Turkey Oak located at Rountree Printing at 2404 Madison Drive as its Tree of the Month for September. In 1971, prior to buying the beach house and starting Rountree Printing, Steve Rountree moved into the house as a rental tenant. B.R. Hunt, the original owner, told Steve the tree was already there when the house was built shortly after Hurricane Hazel. The tree is 80-90 years old. The Loris Police Department (LPD) is sporting a new patch on their uniforms that was designed by two students at Loris High School. Chief Gary Buley presented plaques and a certificate of appreciation for the design for the police patch on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Dakota Kielbon, a junior, and Cierra Bellamy, a senior, were recognized for their design. Kielbon stated that she and Bellamy worked together as a team to design the patch, she said, “I suggested we use the water tower that is near the police department and the design of the state of South Carolina presented as a …

Loris anxiously awaited the ramifications of Hurricane Dorian with expected winds ranging from 55 to 75 mph along with the prediction of 8 to 12 inches of rain.  Late night on Thursday, Sept. 5, Dorian skirted the South Carolina shores as a category 2 storm, but was gentle on the Loris area with minor wind and approximately 6 to 8 inches of rainfall. Residents of Loris were relieved when Dorian did not bring in the winds anticipated. Other than a few areas receiving power outages and a few limbs down, Loris survived without major incident. Mayor Todd Harrelson signed a Proclamation on Tuesday, Sept. 3, declaring publicly the week of Sept. 15-21 as Constitution Week. America’s Founding Fathers signed the most infamous document in American history on Sept. 17, 1787.  The document established the framework of our government and the rights and freedoms, fundamental laws and guaranteed certain basic rights for citizens of the United States of America.  The Constitution begins with “We the People”. Kenya Wright, city clerk and treasurer, announced that in August it was decided to begin an employee spotlight each month.  She said, “What this really does is introduce our employees.
