On Tuesday, May 14, while parked in the Food Lion parking lot by the intersection of Sea Mountain and Hwy 9 at approximately 6:50 pm Lou escaped from the vehicle and ran around the grocery store. She was last seen near the small neighborhood behind the Food Lion shopping center in Little River. A cash reward is being offered for the safe return of Lou! The public is invited to a Bee-Keeping Program sponsored by Yaupon Garden Club at the North Myrtle Beach Library on Monday, June 3, at 11 a.m.  The club is also extending an invitation for the public to attend a Floral Cake Design Demonstration at the North Myrtle Beach Library on Wednesday, June 5, at 2 p.m.  These two events are free to the public. Yaupon Garden Club is celebrating National Garden Club Week by using fresh flowers to design a floral cake.

A presentation and ribbon-cutting to celebrate the opening of Tidelands Health Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health, a freestanding, 46-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, was held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at 100 Water Grande Blvd. in Little River (located within the Bridgewater Community). Registration is now open for the North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation Summer Sports Camps. The department has partnered with North Myrtle Beach High School to offer a variety of specialty sports camps all summer long. These camps are for youth that have skills in a particular sport that they want to be refined or those looking to try a new sport. The 2019 Summer Sports Camps offered include Chiefs Tennis Camp (June 13-15; 1st grade – 8th grade), Chiefs Lacrosse Camp (June 24-28 and July 8-12; ages 7-15), Surf & Turf Soccer Camp (July 9-12; ages 5-12), Chiefs Girls …

America’s Boating Course, a boating safety class, will be offered by America’s Boating Club, also known as the North Strand Sail & Power Squadron.  Most vessel insurance companies offer a discount to boaters who have successfully completed this course, The class will take place on Saturday, June 22.  It will begin at 8 a.m. and run until about 5 p.m.  The cost is $40 for members and $65 for non-members.   It includes a textbook.  Additional family members pay $20 and share the book.  A light breakfast and delicious lunch will be served for no additional fee. The North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center (AFC) and the Grand Strand Masters Swim Team offer free beginner swim lessons for adults and children ages five and older June 3-6 at the AFC. Classes are 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Preregistration is required and available at the AFC at 1100 Second Avenue South beginning on May 13. There are more than 18 million swimming pools and hot tubs in the United States. William Odell Scales, 74, of North Myrtle Beach died on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. Born on Sept. 12, 1944, in Greensboro, N.C., he was the son of the late Robert H. and Dorothy T. Moore Scales.  Mr. Scales is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Ann Clark Scales; one son, William Shane Scales; and one sister, Maxie Hite (Tommy). Pauline Ann Kaltenbach of Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Little River, died on Friday, May 24, 2019, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. She was born in Galion, Ohio, on July 3, 1941, the daughter of the late Allan Cunningham and Opal Smith Cunningham. Pauline spent most of her life in Marion before moving to the Carolinas.  She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and a Masters in Counseling from Ohio State University.  She worked for many years with the Ohio State prison system as an inmate counselor.  She was active in the Laureate Upsilon Chapter of …

On May 2, 2019, Joseph Mannino RPh of Little River went to join his heavenly family. Parents were Salvatore and Giovanna, brothers Jim, Frank, Russ and AL, two sisters Marie and Angie, his son Steve, granddaughter Alyssa and his first wife Thelma.   Joe was born in Westfield, N.J., on April 16, 1922. From grade school through high school, he worked in his dad’s landscaping business which helped build his character.  Upon graduating, he attended college at the University of Iowa where he studied Pharmacology, was president of his fraternity Phi Kappa Sigma and was a member of the Hawkeye football …

Eulalia M. Suanno, 89, of Port St Lucie, Fla., formerly of Calabash, N.C., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Eulalia’s daughter, Geri, and son, John, were by her side during her passing. Eulalia was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia, and husband, John. She is survived by daughters, Theresa, Elizabeth and Geraldine, and son, John; grandchildren John Michael, Christopher, Donald Jr. and Rachel; and great-grandchildren, Kailie, Keira and Kayden.
