Glen Alan “Rock” Purchell, 59, of Little River and formerly of Virginia, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at his residence. Glen was born in Portsmouth, Va., the son of Loisanne Long Purchell and the late Gordon Eugene Purchell. Glen retired from the Washington Area Transit Authority as a supervisor after 30 years with the authority. He recently started a new job at a local marina as a forklift driver and was thoroughly enjoying his new beach life occupation. Bonnie Faye Roberts Floyd,  83, of Loris passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019, at her home. Mrs. Floyd was born on Dec. 28, 1935, in Tabor City, N.C., to the late Henry Hampton Roberts Sr. and the late Grace Phillips Roberts. She was a longtime member of Lake Swamp Baptist Church and the owner and operator of W.E. Floyd’s grocery until her retirement. Survivors include her son, Keith Floyd of Loris; her daughter, Delilah F. Eaddy and her husband Frank of Loris; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While sitting on the metal bleachers last week watching my grandson play his last tee-ball game of the season I thought about my kids playing at the Central Park tee-ball field many years ago. The annual budget retreat meeting was held on Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at the Public Safety Building.  Present at the meeting were Joan Gause, Kenya Wright, Lewis Hardee, Todd Harrelson, Brandon Harrelson and Damon Kempski.  Not present were Terrence Hardee and Jan Vescovi. National Police week began on Sunday, May 12, recognizing the police officers across the nation for their service and bowing their heads for those who lost their lives in the line of duty.  In Loris the city administration and Loris Police Department gathered at the flags between Railroad Avenue and Meeting Street to lower the flags to half-staff.  Kenya Wright, Damon Kempski, Todd Harrelson, Chief Gary Buley and Officer Allen Oxendine bowed their heads in prayer before lowering the city and state flags and then the American flag. During the May 20 North Myrtle Beach City Council meeting, City Planner Dawn Snider was named Employee of the Month. Dawn joined the City in February 2001 as a planning technician and now works as a planner in the planning and development department. She also assists the city clerk with City Council meeting packets, meetings and meeting minutes. She is always willing to help, while also accomplishing her planning duties with excellence.
