This week they finish their annual band camp after two weeks of hot and humid weather, playing and marching through whatever elements mother nature sent their way. By John Smithson The NMB High School varsity dance team had their annual summer dance camp last week and over 80 girls participated. The high school was a very busy place as the dance camp participants practiced in several different locations as they learned steps and turns they would use in the last day of their four-day camp. By John Smithson The NMB Parks and Recreation 12U all-star team won the Diamond Youth Baseball State Championship with an undefeated run through all their opposition. Last Thursday the team gathered at the high school parking lot and got a few encouraging words from members of the varsity Chiefs baseball team before traveling to Lexington, SC for the DYB World Series. The Chiefs traveled to Lexington as South Carolina’s representative in the O Zone District 1 playoff and the chance to become World Series Champion. By John Smithson The NMB Parks and Recreation 12U all-star baseball team completed their undefeated march through the DYB “O” Zone Tournament as they beat Hilton Head and Lancaster to win the state championship. The Chiefs beat Lancaster 4-3 last Monday night and then beat Orangeburg last Tuesday night to set up a meeting with Hilton Head last Wednesday. By John Smithson Since head lacrosse coach Zach Lytle was unable to attend the second lacrosse camp for middle school age players, JV coach Ryan Swisher was preparing to make ten young campers more knowledgeable about the sport of lacrosse. By James Pease II From Thursday, July 10, through Sunday, July 13, the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex hosted the “Summer National Championships” on behalf of Top Gun Sports. The “Summer National Championships” consist of 150 youth baseball and softball teams from seven states including Ohio, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Baseball consists of 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U teams. Softball consists of 10U, 12U and 14U teams. All teams play four one hour games that determine their seed number. By John Smithson Kids from ages five to twelve filed in to the NMB Middle School soccer field Tuesday morning for a chance to better their skills during the three day event. The summer camp was sponsored jointly by the city of North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department and North Myrtle Beach High School.
