The city of North Myrtle Beach is growing and with growth has come unprecedented demand for public parking opportunities, especially at the beach. The Park North Myrtle Beach program seeks to formalize public parking opportunities along the city’s nine miles of ocean beach by introducing paid parking in public parking lots on either side of Ocean Boulevard June 15-October 31, 9 a.m. – 5p.m. daily with a parking fee of $2 per hour. The North Myrtle Beach National Honor Society inducted 104 students into the National Honor Society and recognized 66 seniors last Wednesday night. Earning membership in the National Honor Society is the highest academic honor a student can receive. Students must be rising juniors or seniors and are invited into the society based on their competitive grade point average, academic intergrity and approval by the faculty council. Artfields and Artfields Jr. Awards ceremony was held May 4 in Lake City. In the Jr. division, they received 800 pieces of Art and only chose 200 to be in the competition. The 36th Annual Living Legends Association met May 17–18 at Fat Harold’s Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach. Friday, May 17, was social night for Living Legend members, nominees and guests.  Bayles Mack, Living Legends Board Member, welcomed the great crowd to kick off the night.  Lulu Quick and Jack Rainwater, both Living Legend members, prepared the great appetizers for all to enjoy. Virginia Belle Fowler, 94, of Loris passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at McLeod Loris Hospital in Loris. Mrs. Fowler was born on April 17, 1925, in Tabor City, N.C., to the late Rossie Fowler and the late Gertrude Harrelson Fowler. She worked as seamstress with Loris Manufacturing until her retirement and was a longtime member of Loris First Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, James Fowler and his wife Hazel of Sofia, N.C.; her daughter, Gloria Jean Livingston and her husband Jimmy of Loris; her sister, Dorothy Fowler of Little Rock, Ark.; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, …

Robert Anne Taylor, 76, of North Myrtle Beach and formerly of Rock Hill, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, after a brief illness. RA was born in Rock Hill, a daughter of the late Robert and Ola Sain Mangum.  Before retiring to North Myrtle Beach RA was a licensed Realtor® in the state of Georgia.  In North Myrtle Beach she was a member of the Ocean Drive Shag Club and also a former member of the Rock Hill Shag Club. Mirella Silvana “Sylvia” Faircloth of Longs passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Mrs. Faircloth was born in Massa, Italy, a daughter of the late Pietro  and Andreina Lazzarotti Irbetti.  She was a Catholic, loving mother, grandmother and caring friend.  She loved to travel and especially enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Mrs Faircloth was predeceased by her husband, Brice I. Faircloth Sr.;  her son, Brice I. Faircloth Jr.; one brother, Eliseo Irbetti; and  two sisters, Vera Isolani and Ilia Calvo. The Green Sea Floyds High School Varsity baseball team fell short of another state championship Tuesday night when they lost to the McBee High School Panthers by a sscore of 7-3 in the South Carolina Class A Baseball State Champion Series.  The team can be very proud of the Lower State Championship they won with all of their hard work.  Pictured are team members and coaches taken after winning the Lowr State Champion title.
