Firefighters extinguish house fire

Around 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, C-Battalion units responded to a reported structure fire in the 600 Block of 21st Avenue North in the Cherry Grove section. Engine 2 arrived and found thick black smoke banking down in the living space of a raised beach house. An interior fire attack was initiated that was coordinated with vertical ventilation from the truck crew and primary search by rescue crew. Crews were able to quickly locate and extinguish the fire before it could extend further. No injuries were reported and crews continued salvage and overhaul operations until clearing the scene a …

Post 186 donates to cancer treatment and research center

By Tom Keyrouze On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the American Legion Post 186 made a visit to the Cancer Treatment Center at Mcleod Health in Little River, S.C. Back in October the Carrie King Foundation coordinator visited their monthly meeting and did a presentation on behalf of Mcleod Health Foundation. That’s why they came to the decision to present the foundation with a check for $5,000 to support cancer treatment and research at McLeod Seacoast Hospital. Sea Mountain Highway beach access closed

The City of North Myrtle Beach wants to remind residents that the public beach access on the street-end of Sea Mountain Highway is closed for mobilization of beach renourishment machinery. Contractors for the United States Army Corps of Engineers are utilizing this as part of their mobilization efforts and movement of heavy machinery. As you are walking on the beach, please pay attention to signs and large platforms in the beach access walkway that are tell-tale signs to not go further. Charity seeks donations for Christmas

By Kaye Collins Since 1998, Cookie Tisdale has been providing food for the homeless in Loris, Conway and Myrtle Beach. She later started collecting donations for warm winter clothing and essential items to help keep them comfortable. “God placed it in my heart to assist those who are less fortunate than I am,” Tisdale stated. “It brings me joy to offer items that help keep them warm, even if it’s just a hot meal.” She created the 501C nonprofit Blessed are Those Who Bless Others, through which she gathers donations and feeds the homeless a hot meal once a day. …

Modifications being made to WIC and SNAP benefits

By Kaye Collins The South Carolina Department of Public Health announced that the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program is modifying its milk purchase requirements to extend benefits to more families. Starting on Monday, Dec. 8, officials indicated that WIC will exclusively cover store brand milk or the least expensive milk available. This adjustment pertains solely to milk purchases and does not affect infant formula. Officials have stated that store brand milk offers the same nutritional value and quality as name brand options, but at a reduced cost, enabling WIC to provide greater benefits to families. Lions return sad but much prouder after Friday night’s game

The Lions made the trip to Charleston to compete against the Oceanside Collegiate Academy Landsharks in the Class 3A state championship game. The Lions, along with their coaching staff, had an outstanding season leading up to the game, boasting a perfect 13-0 record, which marks the highest number of wins in Loris High School’s history. By Kaye Collins The 12U football team of the Loris Recreation Department received a spirited and enthusiastic send-off for their lower state championship game against Latta on Monday, Nov. 24. This was marked by an unplanned parade along Main Street, featuring an escort from the Loris Police, a ladder truck and tanker from the Loris Fire Department followed by the coaches and players traveling in separate vehicles. Wober announces run for Crescent Beach seat

Melissa Wober has announced her candidacy for the North Myrtle Beach City Council Crescent Beach District. Water storage tank, transmission line project update is given

Construction on the new Windy Hill area water storage tank is moving forward smoothly. Last week, crews finished installing the steel reinforcement around the new galvanized steel tank structure. Electrical work is also progressing. Contractors continued installing wiring through the new conduits that connect the existing pump control panel to the new pump control panels and the current motor control centers in the Booster Pump Station. Additional conduits were installed in the driveway area behind the station. North Myrtle Beach residents, continue to watch for construction signs and “Road Closed” warnings as crews continue working on the project.

Partnership leaders dedicate new city trail

The perfect mix of local collaborators succeeded in a project designed to “Remember, Educate and Celebrate”. The Yaupon Garden Club, North Myrtle Beach Parks and Rec Department, North Myrtle Beach Tree Board, South Carolina Native Plant Society and North Myrtle Beach Historic Preservation Society were all represented on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Arbor Day celebration and dedication. The impetus for this event was begun by Yaupon Garden Club members Phyllis Green and Phillis Newman, residents of the Belle Park neighborhood who often met to walk the nearby trail surrounding a stormwater drainage pond.
